Turns out that DD may not have reflux at all. I finally met with a lactation consultant on monday who confirmed my suspicion that DD had a posterior tongue tie! 3 pediatricians told me no previously. We saw an ENT that very afternoon and had it clipped, and now we are going to the feeding clinic for suck training. This is the reason that she was not nursing well, choking during feeds, and very irritable with feeding. Unreal. We are staying on meds (zegerid) until we are sure that the reflux monster was an aberration this time, but holy cow! So excited that this may be all fixable!
What burns me up though, is the likelihood that DS had this very same issue 3 years ago and it was never discovered. He never responded to reflux meds, and would only nurse while sleeping, and ended up in feeding therapy at 8 months old because he couldn’t chew, and gagged on everything. Tongue tie is a genetic thing so it’s highly likely he did have one.
BOO to uninformed doctors. And yay for mommy’s instincts! I’ll keep you posted!
