Hey everyone..
As most of you know I have been on a MISSION to solve Shane’s sleep issues (restlessness… jumping and rolling over all night).I think its solved! let me know what you think!!Goat Yogurt. I noticed last week when i gave it in the morning before his nap.. he napped 3 hrs!! I didnt know that this is why at first.. so the day after I didnt give him any.. and he did his measley 1 hr and 15 min. nap.. where he was not fully rested. Then on Sunday I gave him the yogurt again for lunch before his nap… and 2.5 hrs! I began to catch on..Monday.. yogurt before nap and 2.5 hrs.. Tuesday NO yogurt before nap.. 1.15 hours as usual..and not to mention very restless the last 30 min. of it. Then TONGIGHT i did yogurt before bed to “See” what would happen.. and drum roll please…. it has been 3 hrs..and has only moved once!! (he normally moves every 5 min.. after the first hour.SOOOOOO.. did I solve it?! Does this make any sense???Here is what I have tried to conclude: He has always had nasty diapers.. with what seems to be chunks in it (sorry). So, yogurt helps digestion right? So the yogurt could be helping his digestion and stomach in who knows how else. Poor digestion could lead to reflux.. and gas issues. This could bug his sleep. (MEDS DONT HELP HIM.. he doesnt wake in pain either. Mylanta makes it worse somehow) Anyhow… what do I do? Just give him yogurt before every bed time..?? Or try and dig deeper?? I have thought maybe he is MFPI? Not just MSPI? Maybe no Gluten too?? Would this make sense???!Would LOVE to know everyones input!p.s.. I have tried to explain this to DH and my Mom..and both dont understand the correlations.. they say.. “oh just keep giving yogurt then” … am I over analyzing this??January 29, 2008 at 11:13 pm #47799AnonymousInactiveThat’s awesome that the goat’s yogurt is helping with his sleep! I can’t really offer any explanation as to how, but it definately appears to be helping based on that fact that he’s sleeping better after eating it than when he doesn’t. Hmmm… I’m going to be thinking about this for a while to see if I can figure it out! Especially since it seems to have an immediate effect.
Is he on probiotics at all? I wonder if they would have the same type of effect since they provide the “good” bacteria to the gut.Anyway, I’m just glad it’s been working! Maybe it’s the answer you’ve been looking for, or maybe it’s the first step down to path to the solution. Either way, he seems to be benefiting and that’s great!January 30, 2008 at 8:36 am #47802AnonymousInactiveHOORAY for SLEEP!!!!
January 30, 2008 at 9:05 am #47804AnonymousInactiveNo idea why it’s working, just happy that it is!… my guess is also the probiotics.
January 30, 2008 at 1:54 pm #47813AnonymousInactiveThat’s great news, Lauren. Yeah, I would guess the probiotics are helping with the digestion. I would stick with it if it is working.
January 30, 2008 at 2:20 pm #47816AnonymousInactivewhat does probiotics do for reflux ? What is a safe dose.?
January 30, 2008 at 2:24 pm #47817AnonymousInactivehmmm. where exactly do you get goat’s yogurt? that’s great news!
January 30, 2008 at 4:32 pm #47824AnonymousInactivethanks everyone 😉
so would you guys just stick with feeding him the goats yogurt before naps and before bed?? or look further into why he needs them??i am not sure as well if he will eat it twice a day! i think he is getting kind of tired of it. i do have a probiotic.. but it doesnt seem to have the same effect! maybe he needs more??and .. i get the goats yogurt at our health food store. i KNOW its VERY hard to find! I dont even think whole foods carries it! i am not sure though.and as for “what does it do for reflux” i am not exactly sure. .but it helps digestion.. and that is great for reflux. and there should a a dosing on the probiotics.. make sure to get an infants one.January 30, 2008 at 5:36 pm #47828AnonymousInactiveWOW, what an interesting correlation! I would guess it is also the probiotic. Maybe you could try another brand/dose of probiotic and see if that works…especially if he’s already getting tired of yogurt. Regardless…hope it continues! FANTASTIC NEWS!
January 30, 2008 at 8:27 pm #47840AnonymousInactiveInteresting! I’m glad you found something that seems to be working. Maybe you could try giving him the yogurt in different ways like mixing it into muffins or something. Also, it couldn’t hurt to TRY a probiotic in place of the yogurt to see if you get the same effect. I would just mess around with it. 🙂 I think I’ve heard of probiotics made with goat’s milk… I don’t know if that would make a difference.
Whatever it is, I hope he continues to sleep well for you!
January 30, 2008 at 8:35 pm #47842AnonymousInactiveThat’s great that the goat yogurt helped, you must be so relieved!! How did he do last night?
I think you can give a failry high-ish dose of probiotics to a lo, my pedi said they can’t really hurt them. We were giving Dagney 4 crushed up probiotic tablets/day for a little while when she had her yucky tummy from antibiotics, and they really helped her. I’d check with your Pedi b/c when I tried to check dosage w/ the Pharmacist, they never even heard that Probiotics could be given to babies…January 30, 2008 at 9:11 pm #47849hellbenntKeymasterJanuary 31, 2008 at 2:20 pm #47874AnonymousInactivetoday was a yogurt day before nap.. and he is going on 2 and a 1/2 hrs!! wooooohoo!
NOW what do I do??? He cant live on this?I tried my primadophilus and it didnt work last night! I even gave him double. I looked at the strains and it doesnt have the same ones as in the yogurt. I guess I can try looking for one that does? Dont know if I will find it?!But the poor baby slept HORRIBLE last ngiht.. tossing and turning until the wee hours of the morning! UGH… and when I do give it at night it only lasts four like 3 or 4 hrs! hmmm.January 31, 2008 at 5:12 pm #47882AnonymousInactiveLauren, what strains are in the yogurt? Let me know, and I’ll check the probiotic I have.
