a gastrojejunal (hence GJ) tube is placed in some babies who throw up extensively, have delayed gastric emptying, aspirate etc because it bypasses the stomach and goes straight into the intestines. It is a catheter they insert through the gtube stoma (so it is like an extension) so the food never reaches the stomach.
Some babies have had this for some time, others end up with a separate J tube (like the Gtube but it is placed further down). It has helped some babies tremendously. I saw your on the other forum… ask maybe in the feeding tubes or motility forums or maybe do a search…. some people had to start with GJ or G, then go to a G and then finally oral feeds… some because they could not stop the throwing up
Thanks for asking about Matthew – it is a cycle and we will get there!! i may lose my sanity before that but he will be OK 🙂
