My daughter is 8 weeks old and we have been dealing with acid reflux since the second week. At first we switched to soy formula with little change then we tried Zantac and had to stop b/c she would cry for hours after we medicated her. Next we tried Prilosec and had to stop that as well b/c she would cry forhours with it. So we thought we could manage with burping quite often during feedings, keeping her head elevated and adding rice to her formula. That helped some. Through trial and error we found out my breast milk was making the reflux worse (weird) so we stopped that too. After many fussy days and nights, we were put on Nutramigen. We have seen some changes BUT…The past few days she has been spitting up more than ever. Nothing we do helps. She is even spitting up hours after the feeding. Pedi said to do smaller feedings but I’m wondering if anyone has been through this?? What ELSE can we try??

is there pain?
have you read about the formulas?

were you giving ENOUGH zantac? how much does she weigh?
Zantac dosing- my/other’s question (has axid & pepcid doses, too):

did you try mixing the zantac w/ something to help it go down easier – it can be mixed w/ whatever version of a liquid cherry antacid you can find:
Mylanta Cherry Supreme was the one variety of mylanta that did not contain aluminum. you can’t find it anymore, but you can find store brand equivalents.
Try rite-aid, cvs brand, walmart, target, Bartell Drug (West coast), Dollar General, brand names: Geri-Care & Geri-Lanta Supreme, meijer, etc- just look for one that does not list aluminum in the ingredients. you can buy it online, too.
you can give 1ml up to 5 times a day- it’s safe, even for newborns. if you see loose stools back off.
was the prilosec ENOUGH and in a PROPER form?
Prevacid 101:
scroll to the last page of this post, (it’s actually also about other PPIs like prilosec, too)

When we started the Zantac and after the first dose she cried we did do the rest in her bottle. The same with the Prilosec. I know that she wasn’t on either to see a difference but it wasn’t worth seeing her scream and cry for hours after. After having a couple of rough days, we went to the pedi b/c she was fussy and crying for hours on end (greater than 24 hours!). The pedi said she thought she was somewhat colicky and either her reflux was getting worse OR she was allergic to the soy formula as well. She then had us start her on the Nutramigen and said to give it a good week to start. She seemed to like it and it seemed to agree with her. Granted, she did still spit up some but nothing like she was. Also she wasn’t as fussy.THEN came Sunday and she began to projectile vomit at almost every feeding. She doesn’t seem to be in pain but she does act very hungry like she hasn’t been fed in days. We are at a lost as what to doMarch 5, 2013 at 7:54 pm #71751hellbenntKeymastereach change takes 2 weeks…
give the new formula a good 2 weeks
as for colic, BLEH!
I think if you would like to pursue the ‘colic’ route, then read here:
Wondertime article, Colic Solved:
page 2 of the article tells what probiotics help babies
probiotics, brands used:

I would try the zantac again, at tbe PROPER dose w/ cherry liquid antacid…

March 8, 2013 at 6:12 pm #71774AnonymousInactiveWe had the same thing happen… ours turned out to be pyloric stenosis. We are on Nutrimagen… it does help… but we still have alot of spit up. The pedi said it was fine as long as she was gaining weight.
Also… Prilosec compound breaks down after time because it has been suspended. We switched to Prevacid Solutabs and that seems to help some. Has your LO been tested for a delayed gastric emptying… we have that too!March 9, 2013 at 3:41 am #71777AnonymousInactiveWe have been checked for pyloric stenosis and it was negative. But we have not been tested for delayed gastric emptying…I will look into that.
We have been on Nutrimagen for almost 3 weeks and it seems to help somewhat but she does still spit up and seem restless at times-mostly at night or early morning. -
