Well….you could always ask the dr to call in another RX in the meantime. OR this is what I did lol……I went to the ER and demanded that someone tell me what the hell was wrong with my baby, and although I already knew…when they diagnosed him…again lol I asked for a RX lol
I had to pay 188 bucks for my prevacid…so I would get an RX with 10 refills from my family doc….and then one from my PED GI….the insurance will re authorize an RX if it has a different dosage. So I took Conner to 3-4 different doctors, and got about 4 bottles of Prevacid which my insurance covered all 4 RX’s of different dosage amounts…and I ended up with about 4 months worth of 15mg of prevacid.I did the same thing for my Zantac and I have about 6 months worth of that.December 25, 2008 at 8:05 pm #59861AnonymousInactiveMy GI also won’t go higher, my son has been on a higher then “normal” dose (according to FDA), and I had to get special approval from my insurance co but since the doctor had prescribed it, they approved it. However, the GI won’t go higher even though my son has been on the same dose (30 mg/day Prevaicd) since he was 2 months old. Now that he is 15 months, I feel that he is getting worse and I think it is becuase he has outgrown the dose. He is 30 lb. My GI won’t prescribe any more and he is the only pediatric GI in the entire area, within a 2 hour drive. I am going to print the stuff for him too. I have other problems with him anyway, and have been thinking about driving!

Most people will have a hard time getting their doctors on board with the marci-kids because there isn’t any real pediatric testing or statistics proving that children under 12 have any long term effects from higher than *normal* doses of Prevacid. And the doctors/GI’s do not want to be held responsible if something should occur in the infants health that is found to be caused by higher than *normal* doses. You can always take the route I had to take….hehehe I have a mother in law that is a family/medical lawyer and she wrote up a release form and had it noterized saying that I would not hold any of the medical staff at providence accountable if long term effects should arise from putting him on a higher than *normal* dose. BUT she aslo made it clear that if my son should develope a worse condition I.E. Barretts Espohagas because they have failed to treat my son accordingly then they would be held responsible for all my medical fees.My doctor signed the release form and I got what I wanted.I also did the same thing to my GI who refused to do further testing, because my baby seemed to have more intestinal issues I.E. Chronic diarreah and other problems. She made it clear that if he did not do the further testing and we got a GI who would do the testing, and something abnormal came up, then he would be held accountable for paying all my medical bills for the treatment he provided and the treatment that the new doctor provided……..He signed the form, and im getting the testing I wanted Conner to recieve. The point here is…..You sometimes have got to be overwhelmingly(sp) pushy. God gave us the gift of being the worlds biggest b!tch at times, and we have every right to use that gift when we need to, and doctors are no exception, especially when it comes to our children.January 4, 2009 at 8:37 pm #60068hellbenntKeymasterway to go!!!
