I was wondering what your experience has been with gas.
Kiera has been VERY gassy (explosive, painful) ever since we switched to Nutramigen and began her Zegerin. It has been about 6 days since she started the Zegerin (40mg packets, 8 mg 2 X per day with Cherry Supreme Mylanta as additional buffer) and 5 days since she has been on Nutramigen exclusively. She has always been quite gassy but this is much worse. She also is very fussy until she can poop. Then she seems to calm down some for a while. It almost seems like the gas is bothering her more than the reflux. She does not seem to have hard poop and she is going regularly so I am not sure what is going on.Any remedies? Any experience with this that you have had?We were not continuing with the Zantac per our doctor’s orders, but after a couple days of hell, we went with our gut and starting this again. This has not seemed to help the gas although it has helped with getting feedings down, etc.Could it be that the reflux is causing more gas?Could it be the Zegerin?Has anyone had experience with Nutramigen making their baby gassy?I did what I was not supposed to do and switched a bunch of things at he same time so now I have to try to figure out what is causing what.I know that bicycling her legs and pushing on her tummy makes the reflux worse so what is safe to do to help her pass the gas?Any advice would be much appreciated…June 4, 2008 at 2:05 pm #52210AnonymousInactiveIt is very possible that the Zegerid/Mylanta combo could be causing the gas. I know my son really struggled with it at first. Actually, we went to the 20 mg packs and he couldn’t tolerate that at all. Then we moved to the 40 mg. packs and he did better. But we ended up using the Tums smooth dissolve instead of the Mylanta. For some reason, that really helped.
I can’t comment on the Nutramigen, as I breastfed, but I would try to give it a good two weeks before you make any more changes. It could be that her body just needs some time to help regulate things.June 4, 2008 at 5:52 pm #52220AnonymousInactiveMy daughter needed Neocate until the gas subsided, Nutramagin still made her gassy. Zegerid could be gassy.

The chiro also put her back in alignment and did some movements to help get her intestinal valves working. She said they were stuck shut. She said that could explain the gas and the difficulty pooping. We are going 3 times per week to see if this will help at all. After this last week, I am ready to try anything.

Landen couldn’t do zegerid b/c the sodium bicarb made him so gassy and he puked on it as well (he was usually a silent refluxer). Another mom on here that uses zegerid for her little girl said that they have liquid tums now, you just need an Rx for it, so you could maybe try that and see if it helps offset some of the symptoms. Def keep up with the probiotics. They’ve done wonders for my boys. -
