Every time Andrew wakes from a nap and when he wakes in the middle of the night (which has been almost nightly for the past 17 months) he SCREAMS as though he is in EXTREME pain.
My mom (who is supportive) and MIL (who truly believes that he is just SO spoiled) SWEAR that this is learned behavior. I’m beiginning to somewhat believe them or is he really in pain? Even on medication he does it! The only thing that I have noticed is that right after this awakening and screaming(especially after a nap) he is so gassy and miserable! He is still on Alimentum and a milk free diet……so, what do I give him?
Is there anyone that knows of a product that will help with gas relief? We used those Mylicon drops by the “tons” when he was an infant and use Mylanta Cherry Supreme now….but it’s just not cutting it. My doctor just put him on Pepcid this past Tuesday to help him with these last teeth that are putting him over the edge with misery.
Would Gaviscon help? Again, I’m looking for another “piece” of the puzzle to help my sweet little guy!
Andrea
Matthew 4 years old – no reflux
Andrew 10/18/04 – silent reflux and MSPI?

The horrible gas pains and spasms are a result of their stomachs not being able to digest the milk. I am mspi, have been my whole life, now my youngest dd is. Just switched her from alimentem to neocate because of the gas issue. It really does hurt to have your intestines blown up with gas, my daughters stomach gets so distented some times her belly button sticks out. And, it was always so horrible at night. I guess you could just give him juice for one day and see if he wakes up at night with gas, may take a few days to get the milk out of his system and let his intestines heal though. Good luck!

Before removing the offending food, we couldn’t find anything to soothe her gas pains. Recently, we’d trialed millet (successfully we thought) for a couple months, but the pains slowly built up, and she was screaming in pain most nights. A few weeks after we cut out the millet, she was comfortable again. And woke up chatting or whispering to herself. The pain sure wasn’t a learned behaviour.
Can you think of any foods that might be bothering your little one? Can you or have you tried an elim diet for your baby? Maybe that could alleviate the painful gas? ((I wasn’t sure if your baby was on alimentum exclusively or not).
