So after doing some digging into Tracy’s post yesterday on pear juice
problems, I had found research about sorbitol in prune juice and pear
juice (and in fruits like prunes and pears) which can . Some links
follow, including two from Dr. Sears (one specifically on the fruits,
one with a short mention of how sorbitol can aggravate GER).http://www.askdrsears.com/html/10/T106004.asp

With this in mind, and knowing how many of Marisa’s issues seem related
to digestive problems and gas, I’d like to use this information to help
when we restart solids (probably in a few weeks). But it’s a fine
balancing act, since Marisa is also very prone to constipation and I
don’t want to start with bananas or something like that which will bind
her more.So it looks like apricots might be a really good start – they are a P
fruit and therefore should help more things along – but have REALLY low
amounts of sorbitol. How would I make them? Stew and puree? Any advice?
Also, what other foods might be good bets? Avocado maybe? Thanks everyone – trying to sort this out for my girl!

Just not sure how to prepare them. She is not taking solids right now, (getting over the flu) but hopefully by next week she will try something, anything! I am doing a search today on the internet and calling an old friend. I will post if I find anything. Sarah

February 13, 2006 at 7:36 pm #1487hellbenntKeymasterYES! about avocado!
as for apricots: are you buying them fresh? or going from dried? I wouldn’t go from dried…first of all they’re sulphered and second of all, well, just seems like a hassle? can you find jarred apricots or do the jars contain sorbitol? maybe try finding frozen apricots at the health food market?
February 13, 2006 at 8:10 pm #1488AnonymousInactiveI would want fresh… all the jarred I’ve seen are combos (like apples
and apricots). And they probably have citric and/or ascorbic acid –
which I’d like to avoid for now.So you think look for frozen at like Whole Foods? And then do what?
Will definitely try avocado. Any other thoughts that would be easy on intestines but not constipating?

age? Seems the natural digestive enzymes could be good? If so, same
issue as with the apricots – how would you prepare it?! As for papaya,
does it need to be steamed before pureed or just mashed up ripe?Lastly, do you recommend a baby food grinder or just regular blender or mini Cuisinart ok?

pineapple always seemed to acidic to me…I’m a wimp though, and barely gave jonah anything acidic, even after being med free
for the apricots- I’d steam them to get them soft and then puree & if the puree is too thick, then I’d add the water from the boiled water underneath the steamer basket to thin
I gave Jonah a lot of papaya (we’re in tropical miami, so it seemed suiting- plus I did it for the enzymes)- I steamed it just a bit at first and then just mashed it up ripe- I was scared to give it ripe at first…
I used a mini cuisinart and then I started making large batches with the regular cuisinart- with the large batches I had 2 other friends w/ babies the same age, so I’d split up the large batch 3 ways and they also made food and split it- we had a little baby food co-op going…my friend used her blender and there were times for small small batches that I used the babyfood grinder- so to answer you, use whatever you feel like

Thanks re information on apricots and papaya though! You’d do that with frozen organic apricots? Papaya was fresh?
