Ok so Ben is 61/2 months old. So far all he can tolerate is applesauce and pears, along with his oatmeal cereal and lactose free formula. He was on Soy formula and did horrible with it. Now any time I try to give him green beans, bannanas, peaches, etc. He will wake up at 4am and wiggle for about 2 hours. I saw the page with the protein counts on each stage 1 food. Applesauce and Pears have the least amt of protein. My question is how long should I wait before I try to reintroduce the other foods? Which one should I try to reintroduce first? Do these kids ever grow out of it? Do you ladies think all of this intolerance will lead to Celiac’s? He is on 15mg of Prevacid 2x per day. His reflux is doing well. It’s just when he eats those stage 1 foods he gets restless and gassy. Please give me some pointers!!!!!!

The most important thing you can do is don’t rush it. Don’t worry that he “should” be eating such and such a food by a certain age. Some of our kids simply aren’t able to tolerate solids as soon as the average. And that’s OK – as long as they are taking in enough formula, they will be getting all the nutrition their bodies need. It’s best to give their gut time to mature and heal without bombarding it with foods it can’t handle yet.
I would recommend just staying with the formula and the few foods he DOES tolerate for at least a month or two before trying to add a new food. This will give his gut time to mature without stress. Maybe at 8 or 9 months he could tolerate something new. And if not (again, my daughter still couldn’t at that age) it’s OK as long as he’s getting lots of formula. The key will be giving his body TIME to mature.May 9, 2008 at 8:52 pm #51288AnonymousInactiveceliac is genetic, so unless your son has one of the celiac genes, his intolerances won’t lead to celiac. however, people with untreated celiac are more likely to develop other food intolerances.
8 of my 9 kids carry one of the celiac genes, but the disease only activated in 3 of our girls. kevin and i both also carry a celiac gene, but neither one of us has celiac.May 10, 2008 at 6:49 am #51299AnonymousInactiveThanks so much! When I do decide to reintroduce some other solids which ones would you suggest??? My husband was adopted so we have no idea what his genes have or do not have. Sherri, have you ever heard of this with any other kids????
