Hi Everyone-
So, we just got back from our first visit with the GI specialist. I’m not terribly excited about how it went. The good news is, we have samples of Prevacid. (We’ve been doing Zantac for about a month and a half now). The bad news is, I feel like she wasn’t really taking me seriously. I knew it was going to be a rough appointment when one of the first things she said to me was “all babies reflux to some extent”. Every symptom that I said to her she told me it was “non-specific”. So I guess she’s saying that it’s ok for my baby to cry after she eats and arch her back!! I don’t understand!! This doesn’t make sense. And these are the symptoms she has while medicated with the Zantac. If we didn’t have any meds they would be much much worse. Been there…done that. Thanks for letting me vent!At least we got the Prevacid to try and see what happens.-StephSeptember 24, 2007 at 1:25 pm #43200AnonymousInactiveI’m sorry! I fired my first GI doctor b/c he said that Landen was on “sensory overload” and I was dealing with “colicky things” that sometimes are brought on by an “anxious mother” …so you can run into all kinds of quacks out there and it can be hard finding a good GI doctor. We are with an “ok” GI doctor now. I like him b/c he is proactive in testing, he spends a lot of time with us, etc. The only thing he doesn’t do is dose at the marci-kids dose. We’ve gotten up to 20mg with him. But hey, at least he knew what zegerid was…
I’m sorry it didn’t go well. What mg samples of prevacid did you get? I hope it was a decent dose! Remember to dose the baby on an empty stomach and follow up with a meal 30-60 mins later. Its very important. You can keep giving her the zantac also, just make sure it’s at least 4 hrs apart from the prevacid. The prevacid can take a couple weeks to kick in.September 24, 2007 at 2:36 pm #43206AnonymousInactiveI am so sorry to hear about the appointment. It isn’t any fun when you finally think someone will listen and they really don’t. You may want to look under one of the other topics to see if you can find another specialist in your area and post who this not so good one was so that noone else will have to go through this. Good Luck with the prevacid. I would keep the Zantac as well for ~2wks and give 4hrs apart from the prevacid to make sure things good well. Best of Luck.

We were given the 15mg solutabs and I was instructed to give her half a tablet once in the morning 30 minutes before she eats. I hope that is a decent dosage. She weighs 13lbs 7oz right now.Steph

September 24, 2007 at 5:28 pm #43231AnonymousInactiveSorry to hear that your GI didn’t help much. Where are you located… maybe someone can recommend a better GI. I had to go through several doctors before we finallly found one.

I am in Orlando Florida and the doctor we went to yesterday was Dr. Erhart.
Thanks!
Steph
September 25, 2007 at 9:53 am #43264AnonymousInactiveSteph, I am close to your area…
PLEASE let me know if Dr. Erhart gives in and gives you the marci-kids dose. I called my ped GI again today to give him one last chance to give us the dose (I’m about 45 mins from you) if he does, I’ll give you the info and add it to the specialist section.September 25, 2007 at 4:09 pm #43307AnonymousInactiveGreat, thanks Jill! I’ll let you know.
September 25, 2007 at 6:25 pm #43315AnonymousInactiveNo callback from the GI nurse (nice huh?) they do that sometimes…it’ll take them 2 days ….I PM’d you.
