is the best way I can describe Kaden’s poops. Smooth, shiney, almost like a thick liquid. But not overly runny, if I lift the diaper up from one end, nothing drips out or runs down……………is this okay?
I called Similac to see if this was a negative reaction to the alimentum, which he has been on now for 10 days. She seemed to think that it was not abnormal, and said that although she could not see it, if there was no blood, and as it is not technically diarrhea, that she wouldn’t be concerned. (((she is a nurse)))We go to the peds for immunizations next Friday, hopefully we can get a better look at what has been going on, K is still super gassy, screams in pain, but once he lets it go, he is much better.May 23, 2008 at 11:55 pm #51732AnonymousInactiveDefinitely take one of the diapers with you in a Ziploc bag. It will be a great help to your ped to be able to see and test the stool. Just b/c you can’t see the blood, doesn’t mean that it’s not there. I never saw blood in my sons stool, but when the GI did a fecal hemmocult test, it was positive (meaning blood in the stool). The blood can be microscopic. Good luck!

Seriously, that microscopic that the stool doesn’t show any of it???? That is crazy.
It is like a golden brownish color, I guess like brown sugar color. Would I not see any blood if there was? I am not really concerned, he usually has between 2 and 3 a day.
We go on Friday to see the ped, so if K has one in the morning (he usually does his first one when he wakes up in the morning), I will bag it and take it with us. Will it not soak into the diaper by the early afternoon, which is when our appt is?May 24, 2008 at 8:39 am #51735AnonymousInactiveThe blood usually isn’t seen by the naked eye unless it is really bad. They will put a test strip on the poop and test it that way. You will be fine to take a diaper from the morning into an afternoon appointment or you may get lucky and have one closer to the appointment time. good Luck.
May 24, 2008 at 10:19 am #51736AnonymousInactiveIf you want, save a poopy diaper from the day before in a Ziploc bag in the freezer. Take it out a few hours before the appointment. That way you know you’ll have a diaper to take in.
June 8, 2008 at 11:56 am #52344AnonymousInactiveHi there. I’m curious what you found out about the finger paint consistency poop? And, has it continued?
June 8, 2008 at 11:59 am #52345AnonymousInactiveHello
Well, I had talked to our ped about it and said he wasn’t concerned, it wasn’t diarrhea. He (as well as the PHN and similac) said that because of the alimentum and that it was so broken down, that likely had to do with it.We recently switched to Enfamil Gentlease with (so far, so good) good results. And, his poops are now peanut butter consistency. His meds have also been increased, so with everything, he is doing well! At least for now!
So no, no answers about the poops, but things are looking up for us so far!
Thanks for asking………….
