We are finaly going to the G.I. on the 23. but I am not sure what to ask and know before I go to get the most out of the appt. Gabbie is a silent refluxer, ahe has been on zantx(sp?) and previcid, reglan and we have changer formula. the reglan and formula change has helped some. she is still spitting and swallowing it you can hear it and see it on her face(sour look) she cries and arches and her breath is also sour. we are also going to the nurologist this month before the GI for a possible movement dissorder, I am personaly thinking Sandifers Syndrome, so another oppertunity for good questions I should ask.
I guess I am just scared and confused, I do not know what they are going to tell me, I do know that my little girl is in pain and is not happy most of the time and there has got to be something they can do for her.
Any info is appreciated.Thank you and have a great day.July 3, 2008 at 1:39 pm #53358hellbenntKeymasteris she currently on prevacid? is she on a http://www.marci-kids.com dose?
if not, I would discuss higher dosing w/ the ped GI. I would print out the marci-kids research for the dr. I would discuss the Sandifer’s, using this as evidence that the prevacid dose is not high enough.what form of prevacid? if it’s the solutabs, are you giving it on an empty stomach followed by a meal 30 minutes later?
what formula is she on? any rashes or excema? blood in her stool? has her stool ever been tested for occult blood (blood you cannt see)?
if she’s not on nutrimigen or alimentum, then perhaps one of these would help; these still have milk proteins, though, so if she is on one of these, then it might help to ‘move on’ to an elemental forumula such as neocate or elecare.have you read about the differences b/t allergies and intolerances? I’d check that out, too, before you go: Mspi/allergy info(‘main page’): https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2697&PN=1&TPN=1I’d also address DGE. this is Delayed Gastric Emptying. this is what reglan is for. If she has never been tested for this, then I would ask about it because that’s what reglan is for & she may not even need reglan (although I do realize you think she’s doing better with it-that’s why I might want a test to make sure?).are you still giving zantac? are you giving it spaced 4hrs from the prevacid? is the dose at the highest for weight (10mgs per kilo)?Zantac dosing- my/other’s question: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9539&PID=82914#82914I’m sorry to throw so many questions at you, but these are all things to research a bit beforehand so then you’ll know where you stand now, and where you’d like to be soon (ie: after the visit).July 3, 2008 at 3:04 pm #53363AnonymousInactiveHello. thank you for this I had no clue where to start and I like to go to the Doc with questions and knowing what I want for my child.
I am not giving either the previcid solutabs or the zantac at the time, I know see that I should but my ped never mentioned continuing the other meds so I didn’t. I still have a rx for the previcid i was doing a half in the morning and a half at night.DDis almost 9 months old so she hated the nutrimigen so she is on gentalease. There is some excema on her back and legs, no other rashes. no blood in stool that I can see. I will for sure have them do a olccult blood test.Nobody has ever mentioned the DGE. nor did anyone mention the potential sideaffects of the Reglan.Thank you for your help and responding so quickly.I am so glad that I found you guys.July 3, 2008 at 3:42 pm #53365hellbenntKeymasteranother thought: what is she eating? are you finding that she cannot tolerate certain foods? if you are giving cereal, try beechnut brand or any other brand w/ no milk or soy…maybe try keeping a food diary/journal to see if there’s something she’s eating that is upsetting her.
you might want to try nutrimigen again? you would have to slooowly switch by adding just one ounce to her gentelease and then a few days later add another ounce, etc, until you’ve gotten to a whole bottle of nutrimigen. then it would be about 2 weeks to see if there’s any improvement. maybe the excema would clear up? maybe she would seem less fussy? signs like that.
you might want to give some zantac for immediate relief, using the 10mgs/kilo guideline? you can start back in w/ the prevacid, too, but know that it can take 2 weeks for you to see (major) improvements. it seems 2 weeks is what you need for most changes…hellbennt2008-07-03 15:45:28
July 3, 2008 at 5:43 pm #53371AnonymousInactiveShe eats ANYTHING. totaly diffrent from my 3 year old who is only eating three to four diffrent food’s, that is a totaly diffrent subject sorry.
I have just a sample can of the nutrimigen, so maybe I will try again and then if it works I wil get the script for W.I.C they just give me such a hard time about switching and it is way to much to buy enough to feed the little baracuda.
I am also all for starting Previcid again, and this time giveing it 30 min before a meal. also another question when is the best time to give her the Reglan, I give it to her before she eats.Thank you, and have a Happy 4thJuly 3, 2008 at 11:35 pm #53388AnonymousInactiveUtahmommy~ where in Utah are you?
