Feeling Discouraged – Neocate

Today is Day 6 on Neocate for my DS (8wks). Have not noticed much difference yet, but I know it can take 1-2 weeks, plus our GI wants him on it even if we don’t see an improvement in his reflux symptoms, for a variety of reasons.

But I’m so deflated because every day he gets a little more backed up (constipated) to the point where both yesterday and today all he went was a tiny little turd despite trying hard to push out something more.

I’d heard that Neocate can back them up, but this is so painful to watch/listen to. Can I expect it to subside and get better? On Nutramigen he had been going pretty regularly 1-2x/day.

This is so depressing. I was really hoping to avoid the GI rollercoaster this time around.

I am sorry! Is he also on a PPI? That can cause constipation for sure. We ended up using Miralax for Landen and it did wonders. I know consipation caused reflux to flare for landen too, so I hope you can get it under control soon. Poor little guy!!

we have used dark karo syrup the whole time Colt was on Neocate. It at least kept him regular and it didn’t cause him any cramps.

We also used Glycolax (same thing as Miralax) and it really helped. My doctor also said its very safe & non-habit forming. Jenna is off of it now and goes on her own fine. I think you can get this over the counter.
