Does anyone have any experience with a feeding specialist in the Raleigh area?
Maybe Duke or UNC?

March 10, 2013 at 10:11 pm #71796AnonymousInactiveWe don’t have a GI doctor. Should we have one?
March 11, 2013 at 7:55 am #71797hellbenntKeymastersince you’re ‘here’ and you’re inquitring about feeding specialists, then yes, I would think you would have one. I don’t know how old your baby is but it is NOT common for a baby to refuse to eat-
how old is your baby? who is currently treating her/him?
what MEDS is s/he on?
what formula is s/he on, or s/he breastfed?
March 11, 2013 at 9:30 am #71798AnonymousInactiveMy son is 5 months and we have been struggling since the beginning. Because he is gaining weight from breastfeeding, no one is helping us.
He is on Prevacid and Zantac.
I think now he is refusing e bottle/sippy cup because it has been such a horrible experience. Before, he would explore it, but would act like he didn’t know what to do with it. He would bite it and push the bottle nipple around with his tongue.
I have seen two SLPs and they have been absolutely no help, except to encourage reflux meds and tell me to practice having him suck on my tongue.
So, where do I start?
GI specialist first?
This has been so frustrating and upsetting because I don’t know what to do.
Thank you.
March 11, 2013 at 1:41 pm #71799hellbenntKeymasterok, so he’s breastfeeding? why do you need a feeding specialist?
I feel that I’m missing something?he’s ‘just’ 5 months- it can take time to get used to a cup- hold off until 6 months? in the meantime, get sippy with water & ice cubes in it & give to him to play with- show him he can hear the ice cubes clanging around…he;ll explore (eventually & discover he can drink out of it- try a cup w/o any valve- there’s a lid that goes w/ the Snack Trap- this is what my lactation consultant told us to use (we did):http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dbaby-products&field-keywords=Snack+Trap+Lid+Accessory+Packand the take & toss plain ones w/o a valve are good, too:this looks good, too:March 11, 2013 at 2:38 pm #71800AnonymousInactiveHe chomps on me, so it isn’t always comfortable and I work part time at night.
Do you know a feeding specialist in the Raleigh area?

March 11, 2013 at 10:19 pm #71809AnonymousInactiveIt is both issues.
He doesn’t breastfeed well, even though he is gaining weight.
I have seen LC…several.
I need to work, so he has to be able to eat when I am gone. I don’t care how…he just needs to be able to do something.
I know that reflux was/is a component.
That is why I need a specialist to help me/us work through the problems.
March 12, 2013 at 7:51 am #71811hellbenntKeymasteraha!
Call la leche…try another LC?
And yes, you might want to check-in w/ a ped Gi at this point…
kellymom.com might have some good answers, too!
he may not be able to take a bottle from YOU- mine wouldn’t! the babysitter and my husband- OTHERS could get it to work….I think he’ll be fine- it’s quite w/in the realm of normal to now want to take a bottle from mama….
in the meantime, have ‘fun’ w/ various sippies w/ water…you could even put ice cubes of breastmilk in it, for the taste…
hang in there!
