This info is too in depth for me to explain it all so I will post links. Please, please take a few minutes & look into this! I am so shocked by this information that I feel the obligation to pass it on to other parents.
Excitotoxins- They are substances added to foods and beverages that literally stimulates neurons to death, causing brain damage or varying degrees. It is linked to neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Lou Gehrig’s Disease and others. These excitotoxins are found in ingredients such as Monosodium Glutamate (MSG), Aspartame (Nutrasweet®), Sucralose, (Splenda) cysteine, hydrolyzed protein, and aspartic acid.
This video is very long & I still have not watched it all but please watch some of it.
Toxins in baby formulas (NEW CHANGED LINK FROM ORIGINALLY POSTED)
Good info & explanation of exactly what this is Please explore the different topics at the top of this page especially hydrolisis explaining the breakdown of amino acids (which is what Neocate is)
I also urge you to Google more about this topic. I intend to do a lot more research & if possible I want to switch my son to a different type of formula because as you can see from the second link that hypoallergenic formulas have the highest amounts.

Both my boys drank Nutramigen the first year of their lives. And so it makes me feel kind of ill to read things like this. 🙁
But I am so thankful that because I found a way to prevent reflux and milk intolerance, I will never have to give this formula to any of my children again! Happy Mom2012-05-18 10:40:28
May 18, 2012 at 7:16 pm #70371AnonymousInactiveI think many of us on here have babies that drink & need these formulas, mine included. Also I am trialing Neocate right now & I read the ingredients & one of the top ones is Aspartate! As in aspartame, I think this is like Nutra sweet & things like that. So now I am considering not even doing the Neocate. I don’t know what to do it’s very confusing. I guess I will have to see how much it helps him & do some more research. I know that in the future if I have any other kids I will definitely breastfeed. That is one of my biggest regrets. I wish I knew then what I know now.
These things are in many other common foods too. Mostly packaged food & junk foods (which I love). I am going to really make an effort though to start changing my families eatting habits.
I think we really need to get the word out about this because when enough people complain about it that’s the only way it will be stopped. I can almost kind of understand putting it in adult food (not saying it’s okay!) but baby foods, really??
May 20, 2012 at 5:05 pm #70376AnonymousInactiveBabies are 4x more susceptible than adults because their blood brain barrier is not fully developed. I changed the second link in top post because it has all the same info but a lot more underneath also.
Another thing I found out is that the flu shot has these things in it. A while ago I had come across a website about vaccine dangers & many parents were saying things like their kids or babies having seizures after flu shot or sleeping for days after vaccines.
Here is just a small portion of the following link-
-Excitotoxins promote cancer growth and metastasis.
-Cancer cells become more mobile when exposed to aspartate or glutamate.
-Exposing a tumor to glutamate has been compared with giving it fertilizer — it grows like wildfire.
-It can make a curable cancer incurable.

But I have a LO who has multiple food intolerances and I also work for Nutricia, the company that makes Neocate, I just wanted to post that there is NO Aspartame in ANY Neocate products! L-Aspartate, which Jackie is referring to here in this post, is an amino acid. It can also be called aspartic acid, actually if you want to be technical the salt of the aspartic acid is called L-Aspartate – an amino acid which is a building block of protein. This is the ingredient that is listed. If ever in doubt about what is in the product please don’t hesitate to call and talk to one of the Nutrition Specialists.

No it does not contain aspartame per se but if you did research you would see that they are very similar & aspartic acid is one of the 3 ingredients used to make aspartame. Just because these substances are natural, when broken down into amino acid state they are very toxic! Here is some info about Aspartate/aspartic acid. There are links below each for where they came from.

Any ingredient that contains protein as well as acids or enzymes, or any protein product that has been fermented, will very likely contain MSG. Even “a little” protein combined with acids or enzymes will create MSG
How the food companies hide the way msg is used in their products.-
http://www.truthinlabeling.org/understanding-manufacturer’s-deceptive-tactics.html
neurotoxic amino acids =glutamic acid, aspartic acid, and L-cysteine
The greatest concentration of MSG fed to children will be found in infant formula. MSG as well as other excitotoxic amino acids are found in infant formula, with the greatest amounts found in hypoallergenic formula
http://www.truthinlabeling.org/formulacopy.html
The Canadian Study leaves no room for doubt that ingredients that contain processed free glutamic acid
(MSG) and free aspartic acid — known neurotoxins— are used in baby formula. The fact that neurotoxins
are present in baby formula is of particular concern since the blood brain barrier is not fully developed in
infants, allowing neurotoxins to be more accessible to the brain than is the case in healthy adults.
The amounts of aspartic acid and glutamic acid found in the formulas analyzed in the Canadian Study have
been listed separately in the tables. However, in studies using experimental animals, neuroscientists have
found that glutamic acid and aspartic acid load on the same receptors in the brain, cause identical brain
lesions and neuroendocrine disorders, and act in an additive fashionhttp://livinganointed.com/protect-our-babies/msg-in-infant-formula.pdf
Aspartate (the conjugate base of aspartic acid) stimulates NMDA receptors, though not as strongly as the amino acid neurotransmitter glutamate does
Aspartic acid is not an essential amino acid, which means that it can be synthesized from central metabolic pathway intermediates in humans. Aspartic acid is found in:
Animal sources: luncheon meats, sausage meat, wild game
Vegetable sources: sprouting seeds, oat flakes, avocado, asparagus[citation needed], young sugarcane, and molasses from sugar beets.[1]
Dietary supplements, either as aspartic acid itself or salts (such as magnesium aspartate)
The sweetener aspartame (NutraSweet, Equal, Canderel, etc.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartic_acid
Aspartame (L-Aspartyl-L-Phenylalanine Methyl Ester) is made up of two amino acids, aspartic acid and phenylalanine, and bound together with methanol. These break down to formaldehyde (used for embalming and known to cause cancer), formic acid (a venom in ant stings) and DKP (known to cause brain tumours). While aspartic acid, phenylalanine and methanol occur naturally in various foods, aspartic acid and phenylalanine are usually bound up with other amino acids and methanol is counterbalanced with ethanol. In aspartame these compounds are not bound up (isolated phenylalanine is a neurotoxin), and the influx is readily absorbed into the brain, causing an excess of free radicals and over stimulating brain cells. Ultimately, holes are made in the brain
Therefore, amounts of neurotoxic glutamic acid and neurotoxic aspartic acid ingested daily by an average infant on each of the analyzed formulas would be as follows:http://www.truthinlabeling.org/formulacopy.html
If you would take the time to read a few of these links you would understand that Neocate must have dangerous neurotoxins in it. Especially if you look at the studies that show the hypoallergenic formulas have the highest amount.
Remember: By food industry definition, all MSG is “naturally occurring.” “Natural” doesn’t mean “safe.” “Natural” only means that the ingredient started out in nature, like arsenic and hydrochloric acid.http://www.truthinlabeling.org/hiddensources.html
If there is a chance that I am wrong then I do apologize but I whole heartedly believe that I am correct. Think about it, do you think they are going to tell us that it contains ingredients that are altered from their natural state, in turn making them extremely toxic? Especially when this is one of the most expensive formulas? Do you know how much money they are making from it?? I’ll guarantee any of the makers that actually understand the science behind aLL OF THIS WOULD never HAVE THEIR BABY ON THIS FORMULA.
I have nothing against Neocate & I understand how much it helps so many babies but I also believe that everyone should be informed on exactly what they are feeding their child & the mostly long term health affects.jackie2252012-06-05 07:01:12
