I have been on the TED for 2 1/2 months now, in some form or another. Some times I think the things I eat effect my ds, sometimes I’m not sure. I’ve clung to this diet so hard that sometimes I wonder if it’s just me trying to control the situation (reflux) more than anything.
Anyway, I’m currently eating: oatmeal, honey, pears, brown rice, chicken, turkey, olive oil, coconut oil, salt, pepper, carrots, greenbeans, squash and zucchini, sunflower seed butter, romaine, spinach, cilantro, potatoes, sweet potatoes. I think that’s it. Any ideas on what to try next? I’ve gotten to the point where I’m afraid to add in anything because it might lead to a couple of bad days.
July 3, 2007 at 9:31 am #38476hellbenntKeymasterafter 2 and 1/2 months I would try adding things back in…
or, take things out to see if there’s improvement-the only things to try taking out, that I see, are the oatmeal and the rice…so maybe try only one week without rice and see if there’s a differencethen if there’s no improvement, add back the rice and take out the oatmeal for a week…if it’s not these things, then I would definitely consider slowly adding food back in and ending the diet…that’s just me & what I would do…I would also address medications and make ‘sure’ that your baby is getting ‘proper’ doses, etcit’s tough!!~lauraps: if you go to the top right hand corner of this screen & click on‘settings’then click on edit profilethen ‘signature’you can put your baby’s age (name & your name)and meds & how much& breastfed/TED, etcJuly 3, 2007 at 11:02 am #38478AnonymousInactiveThank you Laura!!
I’ll try taking out the rice first (I haven’t been eating much of it anyway). Then the oatmeal. Great suggestions.
ps. Added a siggy.

I just saw this, and I will tell you that I was on the TED or some form of it for almost 6 months!!! REEEEEEEEEEdikulus! I just wanted to say though that I totally understand how you feel. I was always wondering if Ben was reacting to the food I was eating or if it was just a bad reflux day. I still can’t say that I know for sure. I think though, that unless you eat something and see a really drastic change, then it’s probably not bothering him. From my signature, you can see that I’m still eating milk/soy free. I’m just to much of a wimp to try them! But as for what to add next…I would go with more fruits and veggies… grapes, avocado, plums, bananas, maybe other squash like pumpkin,When I started adding the big scary foods.. I started with corn and then moved to wheat… that opened a huge door, and I finally felt like I was eating again.Best of luck to you.July 10, 2007 at 9:25 pm #38983AnonymousInactiveJenn,
I can totally relate. I did TED for almost a month and that was strict TED. Pretty much just what Dr. Sears suggests. Torture!!!! After that amount of time I realised that Kate really wasn’t any different then she was before I started. I am partially milk and soy free b/c I’m also a wimp and am terrified she’ll have a reaction. Deep, deep down I doubt it though. Have fun adding things back in and good luck! Man was it AWESOME to get away from potatoes and turkey!!!July 10, 2007 at 10:50 pm #38988AnonymousInactiveThank you for posting ladies!! I know I’m not alone.
I did milk-free for 2 years with my 1st ds. It was VERY clear that he could not handle dairy. Still can’t have it in large doses. At this point, I would give anything to be “just” milk-free LOL.
We upped Gabe’s prevacid dose and that has been helping a lot. I feel better about adding things in now because he’s doing better and I feel like I can tell better if he’s reacting to food or not.

I finally followed the advice of our Peds GI Spec and put him soley on Neocate then added rice cereal, etc. Well, I saw NO DIFFERENCE. I know what you mean about beating yourself up. I find it amazing that there wasn’t a huge difference between me BF on the TED and Neocate. Some kiddos just have a hard time – no matter what they are fed. Keep on BF!

Brenda,
Thank you for the encouragement to keep breastfeeding. When I’m really down I do wonder if I’m doing him more harm than good by breastfeeding.
July 11, 2007 at 8:41 pm #39035AnonymousInactiveJenn! I used to wonder this myself, and it didn’t help that I had family members always saying “why don’t you just try formula!!” (my mil mostly )
Anyway, remember that you are doing your absolute best for him, and your breastmilk is the easiest thing for him to digest and the absolute best and most natural food for him. Hang in there! -
