I tried messaging you but it says you have exceeded the number of private messages which i know Cooper’s mom contacted you for me but I didnt know if that means your inbox is full or that you cant get anymore private messages. I tried messaging Cooper’s mom again and the same thing happened just to let you know.
I am so beside myself I could scream, and I don’t know what to do. I hope you don’t mind me coming to you.
Is there usually a progession to a nomal diaper. Like does the green usually go away befor mucus, etc.?
So, If you remember I have been on Dr. Sears TED except that I included steel cut oats, sugar and pumpkin. I had been doing that diet for about 4 weeks starting 11/21. She had her 4 month vaccinations on 12/13. The next day she had blood in her poop, but I was told that can happen with MSPI babies after vaccination. Things didn’t get a whole lot better with her diapers. They were mostly green with some mucus. so on 12/20, I stopped all rice products and substituted quinoa and things definitely turned better. Her poops were consistently mostly yellow some mucous here and there. I hadn’t had any summer squash or sweet potatoes in awhile and had some on 12/29 and on the 12/30 she had 2 poops one smelled a little off and the other one had a little mucus. So, I stopped eating those 2 things. On 1/2 I ate a whole bag of lays natural potato chips and the following day her poop was yellow but there was a lot of mucous and some blood. So since things really never went back to normal I switched out turkey for ground lamb and stopped eating pumpkin with the steel cut oats since that is one thing I have been eating everyday since they told me to stop dairy and soy. So since 1/4 all I have been eating is quinoa in a lot of different forms, domino sugar, ground lamb and fresh pears. I do take supplements. I started on that country life liquid calcium that you recommended on 12/22 and Simply one prenatal vitamin on 12/26. I also started her on klaire labs infant probiotics the next day I started the lamb which was 1/4. Since the lays chip incident that I thinked caused the blood and her starting the probiotics and my new diet of lamb, domino sugar, quinoa and supplements for 9 days today her diapers seem to be getting worse. She has had thread like stands of blood once on 1/6 and a lot of mucous and multiple stands of blood yesterday 1/8 but the dipaer was mostly yellow. She also had an episode of smelly gas before her poopy diaper yesterday. Though last night and today she hasn’t had smelly gas but her diaper was more green than yellow today and there was some brownish tinged mucous. So, with all that I don’t know what I am doing wrong. She does go to daycare during the week and I am having the lady keep track of her diapers but of course I wonder how closely she examines them. I have read that her taking probiotics that the diapers will get worse before they get better but do you think it would take all week for them to get this bad? Can they cause blood and mucus? Or is she still reacting to my chip incident on 1/2? I don’t know if I should go back on the turkey and maybe she is reacting to the lamb or the sugar that I was eating? I just felt we were going in the right direction and now I feel like we are starting from the beginning again. I am also worried about my nutrition and hope she is getting what she needs out of my breast milk with being eating only 3 foods!!!! I don’t know if i should go to the doctor but me pediatrician thinks I’m going overboard with this.

Okay… yes, usually there’s a progression. It’s something like this:
1) visible blood & mucous (usually also green)
2) no blood, but lots of mucous (usually also green)
3) less mucous (usually still green but could be yellowish)
4) no more mucous but liquidy & still not quite sweet smelling (could be yellow, greenish-yellow or even still dark green)
5) a bit more seedy, more sweet smelling (usually yellow or greenish yellow)
6) seedy, sweet smelling (yellow)
Okay, so I can totally understand your frustration (after reading through your whole post)… first & foremost, you’re doing great.
I would choose 4 things & stick w/ that for 5-7 straight days. If you (ETA: if your db has no stinky has, not you) have no stinky gas in those 5-7 days then what you’re eating is correct. The diapers might not regulate for a while after that but if there’s no stinky gas, then you’re on the right track.
I responded on your probiotic post but I’ll say it here too – yes, they can cause yeast die-off but no, I wouldn’t say that they should/could cause blood or mucous.
I can totally relate to your being all over the place… my Evan was intolerant to turkey, pear & rice… but it took me a while to FINALLY figure that out.
She is getting what she needs from your breastmilk – no worries about that. I would just make sure you’re eating enough calories & getting enough fat & protein (as well as drinking enough fluids).
Here’s something I’m copying & pasting from my sticky post a while back…
To MAINTAIN QUANTITY of milk supply:
-Do no lose more than 1/2-1 lb/wk
-Eat at LEAST 1500 calories/day (1800-2200 is best- 1500 is the minimum)
-Drink at least 64 oz of fluid/day & add 8 oz of extra fluid for every caffeine drink you have (coffee, soda, etc)
To MAINTAIN &/OR INCREASE QUALITY of milk supply (ie: make it higher in fat, etc):
-Eat at least 30 g of fat/day (easy sources: avocado & olive oil… I use olive oil for EVERYTHING)
–>The fat in your diet is a huge indicator of the good fat in your breastmilk
-Eat at least 30 g of protein/day
I think I covered most of your concerns… let me know if I didn’t- I promise I’ll be around again 🙂 (at least until Tate’s eye surgery next week).erinntx2011-01-13 15:30:24

I guess I am just in a panic and want to get to baseline before I start her on solids and her 6 month appointment is next month and her vaccinations always cause blood in her poop. I’m thinking she is just recovering from those darn lays potato chips that I indulged in that caused her to have blood and a lot of mucus making her diapers worse than they were before. Hopefully it will turn around quickly here. She did have a lot of gas while nursing this evening but I didn’t smell anything so I am crossing my fingers I don’t screw things up again.
