I actually was able to speak with the GI Nurse again yesterday, and she said the anesthesia that they’ll be using isn’t really general anesthesia, it’s called ?propafol? (I’m sure the spelling’s completely wrong!), and she said it’s short lasting and kids come out of it really well normally. That made me feel better, so maybe, Jenny, you can see if that’s what they’ll use on Adriana.

They gave her a little something to relax her at first, so that separation wouldn’t be hard, and within a couple of minutes she was almost acting drunk. It was both funny and scarey at the same time–she’d laugh for no reason, then be really tired and loopy. They wheeled her off to the or and we saw her about 45 minutes later in recovery. She even woke up really well, they put her on my lap and we first gave her some pedialyte, which she sucked down, then I was able to give her a bottle of formula and she drank almost the whole thing too. The only thing that bothered her was when they took her IV off and the little splint on her arm & pulled that sticky thing off that holds the whole thing on.
Anyway, the doc didn’t see any inflammation or anything bad, they took biopsies along the way, but those results won’t be back until next week, so we’ll have a follow-up on Aug 3rd. I asked the doc if she could just need more time before we wean her, and she said yes, and maybe we’d need to wean differently. I guess we’ll find out more about that next week. I’m just relieved it’s done! I was practically a basket case the whole morning until we saw her there sleeping peacefully in post-op, then I was again crying with happyness. It’s done, and it wasn’t nearly as bad as I had feared!July 26, 2007 at 10:33 pm #39934AnonymousInactiveOh my gosh, i am glad it went well. What a relief for you!!
I canceled Adriana’s. We started to wean and we are at 15 mg a day right now. She is doing okay so far. I hope all the biopsies are normal and Dagney will be all better soon!! Let us know!!July 27, 2007 at 9:20 am #39951AnonymousInactiveso glad it went well… what a relief.
July 27, 2007 at 12:26 pm #39958AnonymousInactiveJust wanted to add that my older son was on Nexium until 14-15 months (can’t remember exactly when we weaned). Our pedi GI (who was the head of pedi GI at the local Children’s hospital) said that many babies don’t outgrow reflux until 12 months and some not until 15-18 months so he didn’t have a problem keeping John on a high dose until that point. He said if they don’t outgrow by 18 months, they probably will be dealing with it for life. We gradullay started weaning at 12 months but again I don’t remember the specifics. John is now 3 1/2 and thriving. We never had an endoscopy done but if I had concerns about John or if he had not done well on the meds I would have.

Please let us know about her biopsy results.Jenny,I hope Adriana continues to do well on the 15 mgs and that you can wean her completely soon. She just gets prettier and prettier! -
