I finally got the instructions for Nicholas’s endoscopy today. It is scheduled for Friday. In the instructions, it says to give him a “baby lax” enema something like 3 hous before and 1 hour before. What the heck is a “baby lax” enema? Is this the brand name?
I would call the GI office back except I think the scheduler hates me now. I had to call twice and leave messages to get the scope scheduled. I had to call twice and leave messages to get the instructions for the scope. I finally gave her my e-mail address and had her send me the instructions b/c I got tired of waiting. I told her that I thought it would be easier for her to e-mail, b/c it seemed like it took awhile for her to return phone calls. Was that mean??Last but not least, does anyone have any good tips or things I could do to make this easier on him or me? I know it’s not that big of a deal, but he is the worst at being hungry. Nicholas eats about every 2 to 2 1/2 hours right now. I can’t imagine Friday when he has to go for 6 hours +. Thanks!!April 16, 2008 at 12:31 am #50411AnonymousInactivei can’t imagine why they would want you to give your child a baby lax before doing an endoscopy. were they planning to scope from the other end also?
April 16, 2008 at 9:40 am #50414AnonymousInactiveAddy had an endoscopy but we didn’t have to do any laxatives. I don’t understand why they would want you to do any either.
We had the first appt on a Friday morning, so we had to be there by 6:30 am. We woke Addy up and left her in pj’s and drove to the hospital. I know you said you have called a lot but hopefully since he is so young, they scheduled it first thing in the morning?? We woke Addy up and fed her just before the time they said her last feeding could be at and she went right back to sleep.Good luck with the it…the endoscopy is super quick…it was getting an IV in that was the difficult part.addysmommy2008-04-16 09:41:22
April 16, 2008 at 10:05 am #50416AnonymousInactiveWe absolutely did not have to give a laxative before Landen’s endoscopy! I agree with Christine…what kind of scope is this? lol
Seriously, I might call them and tell them that he isn’t consipated (lol) you just want an endoscopy!!. I do remember our old GI saying that Landen could not eat after midnight and they preferred we feed him pedialyte at that midnight feed so they could have a clean clear view of what they were looking at. Perhaps they really want Nicholas really cleaned out! What time is his endoscopy? It should be an early morning appt. Just make his last meal a nice big fat bottle of whatever he’s aloud to have. Does he take a paci? Landen woke wanting to eat at 4 am the next morning and I had to keep him calm and distract him with his paci. He did surpisingly well. Maybe Nicholas will too. It will all be worth it to have answers! My older son now has to get an endoscopy and I don’t know how I am going to explain to him he cannot have his precious soymilk the morning of his scope!April 16, 2008 at 11:22 am #50418AnonymousInactiveI just e-mailed the office. They scheduled him for a flexible sigmoidoscopy. Not even the right procedure. I thought the enema thing sounded weird. I could truthfully strangle the procedure scheduler at the GI’s office right now. Getting this scope scheduled and getting the instructions has been the biggest nightmare. And now she didn’t even schedule him for the right thing. I LOVE Dr. Stathos and his PA Rachel, but the people that work in the office are TOTAL idiots.
His endoscopy is at 2pm. Our GI doc comes over from Denver 2x a month only on Fridays. One of those Fridays is for procedures and the other is for follow-up appointments. The PA comes over every Friday so we sometimes see her for office visits, but she can’t so procedures. I really didn’t have the option of an early morning appointment. I’m lucky I didn’t have to drive 4 hours over mountain passes to have it done.April 16, 2008 at 12:01 pm #50419AnonymousInactiveI got an e-mail back from the GI office. Nicholas is having both an upper GI scope and a flexible sigmoidoscopy.
