well it looks like we are finally going to do the endo. Which I have mixed feelings on. Both DH and I want tersting. Since for the past 4 months we have been trying to figure out what is going on.
We have tried 3 different meds and we are now going to do this. I just dont’ want to have him go thru it and then find out that nothing is wrong.
I know it has to be done so I am okay with it.
September 27, 2006 at 1:19 pm #14429AnonymousInactiveGood luck and please keep us posted. I haven’t had the endo experience so I can’t offer any advice or reassurance, but I’m sure many other moms here will.
September 27, 2006 at 1:27 pm #14435AnonymousInactiveTesting can give you SO many answers – there is not only reflux per se that can be found but thrush sometimes, an abnormality, EOS cells etc. For us, even though the endo only showed mild esophagitis and the lasst one showed clear esophagus, it proved to us that Matthew’s reflux was under control and we started looking into feeding aversions.
It really is not a bad experience for the baby – good luck and keep us posted (I had an endo done recently and was totally fine)
September 27, 2006 at 1:40 pm #14438AnonymousInactiveEmma had a endo less than a month ago and it was one of the easiest things we have put her through. I am so glad I did it, and it didn’t bother her at all!! Good luck and I hope you find some answers!!
September 27, 2006 at 1:44 pm #14440AnonymousInactivethanks— I know we will get answers and that is what is important.
I was also told that they would be able to tell about allergies also. Has anyone heard that?
September 27, 2006 at 1:51 pm #14442AnonymousInactiveEmma’s GI told me that it could say that they have allergies however it can’t say what they are allergic to and unfortunetly allergy testing is not 100% accurate in infants, not even toddlers. It can determine lactose intolerance. I am sorry if you have answered this before but what meds and formula have you tried??
September 27, 2006 at 2:29 pm #14447AnonymousInactiveIf they find EOS cells (supposedly these are usually visible, but they should do biopsies just in case) then it means that the body is indeed fighting an allergy (EOS cells are just white blood cells that fight infections and therefore may react to proteins in what the baby is eating).
I assume that Ryder is only on formula at this stage? Therefore if they fins something you can assume it is probably a diary or soy allergy.
It is harder for older babies because of teh variety of foods they eat
September 27, 2006 at 9:45 pm #14485AnonymousInactiveGood luck with the scope. We were initially so scared of it, but after a LONG wait we had it done. It really wasn’t that bad for Hailey, and it was able to tell us that she no longer had esophagitis, which was good news. We’re still waiting on the biopsies, but I anticipate and pray that they all come back clear.
I do know how you feel about not wanting to put them through it if it shows that there is nothing wrong, but really, that’s the exact result that you’re hoping for… that they don’t find anything wrong. At least then you know that there’s no esophagitis, and no serious damage or issues, and there is a better chance that they will outgrow it.
We have been so thankful that we had this done with Hailey, despite my fears surrounding things. It really helped to answer a lot of question marks that I had prior to the procedure. Unfortunately, we’re no further ahead in terms of where to go for the future, but at least we know what we don’t have to worry about.
I hope that things go well for your little one. Please keep us posted.

Ryder is getting breastfed only and he is on axid .9mls
October 6, 2006 at 2:35 am #15054AnonymousInactiveWe’ve been through the scope twice, and I’m not going to lie. It’s scary, but worth it.
October 6, 2006 at 6:52 pm #15093AnonymousInactivewhen kassie had her endo, you could see white bumps all over in her esophagus. the doc told me that it was either yeast or allergies—-it was yeast, but i am assuming that allergies must cause a similar looking esophagus—but like thais said—-the biopsies tell the real story. i was able to stay in the room and watch tianna’s endoscopy—it was pretty interesting.

maybe he needs a PPI? many babies on here dont get relief from an H2 blocker like axid.
