So Janna is almost always feeding nowadays because the less she takes at a time she’s less likely to vomit so we’ve got feedings going pretty much all though the waking hours.
Sometimes we get ourselves into a bit of a bind where her next Prevacid dose is due and although I should be feeding her (trying to keep up 600mls/day) I find it necessary to make her wait so we have an empty stomach for the Prevacid.
The last time I didn’t wait the Prevacid dose pretty much was useless so I’ve learned my lesson re: dosing with food in the stomach.
Anyone know how long it takes an infant’s stomach to empty? I know it’s a loaded question because delayed gastric emptying contributes to GERD…..
Edit to say – found it!
http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/pagerender.fcgi?artid=1029394&pageindex=3so around 30-60 min should do.

He would get up from his nap around 3:30pm, I would let him have this snack then take it away at 4pm and give him his prevacid at 5pm and dinner at 5:30pm. Now of course he was older but I think 1-1.5hrs would be enough.. I think 30 min probably isn’t long enough. And it of course all depends on how much they ate the last time as well.
November 7, 2008 at 10:07 pm #58456AnonymousInactiveWe are on Bufferbabies but there IS a difference for us if not taken on an empty stomach, found that out the hard way
Getting calories in and keeping them in is difficult so we’ve been doing smaller meals more often wich has resulted in an almost constant feeding schedule and still she’s not gaining well enough.
****Edit to say – I take it back on the BB* I had made a mistake putting the bottle together (top was twisted) I only figured this out after noticing the flavouring (now coloured light pink) wasn’t coming through although it originally looked like it was before it changed colour and became more obviously different from the medication susp. (must have been just air coming through the dispenser?)
So in essence we were giving the med but not the sodiumbicarb flavouring – unbeknown to me until now. I’ve pulled apart cleaned and fixed the top part of the bottle (Pump) and we should be good from now on.
Lesson learned! DONT ever twist the top of the BB container and YES it is very important that the BB label and the dispensing holes line up at the front.
