Hi
My son was diagnosed with laryngo malacia and tracheomalacia within a month of his birth. We went through the xrays, barium swallow etc (those were scary days). But we chose not to go for the bronchoscopy (which will help to find out if there is bronchomalacia as well).
Instead we met with a couple of ENTs (one of the best in north east) who said that any invasive procedure is not needed as long as the baby is gaining weight and thriving. If the baby thrives, it simply means there are no other lesions or stuff in the airway path. These conditions are usually outgrown by 18 months.
But one thing though, as the baby grows and inhales more air, the sound WILL INCREASE. This is quite normal according to the ENTs. The condition ‘worsens’ before it gets better. So the key thing to look out for during pediatric visits is the weight gain. As long as your baby is happy and active, you don’t want to put him/her through any surgery.
It never hurts to get second opinion if you are skeptic about what your doctor is advocating.
