Hi it.s Rosemary. Mother of Van. I was skimming the posts in various
forums
and from what I have gathered, it seems as though my son has an allergy
to
something in my milk. I am currently breastfeeding and I am not willing
to
stop. Like some Ped’a have told me to do My son has frothy,
sometimes mucusy stools and ECZEMA! I didn’t realize that his allergies
could appear in his skin appearance. So do I have to do a total elimination
diet and then add things back in? Or should I just start taking things out
one by one. Obviously I should start with MILK.
Any advice?
I just feel like he is getting more nutrition from breastfeeding than
formula even with allergies.
I am willing to do what it takes. I guess I just need some guidance and
support.
So Eczema can be cause by MILK allergy?
June 18, 2007 at 11:01 pm #37172AnonymousInactivemost reflux babies have a sensitvity to milk protein and often times soy protein too-its called MSPI.
basically, there are a lot of successful breastfeeding moms who cut out ALL DAIRY (read labels-casein, whey, etc) and ALL soy. this usually makes a huge difference. in our case, switching to neocate helped with his relfux pain tremendously, as milk/soy proteins in an intolerant baby can damage the gi tract and cause reflux flair ups.
what your son has is not necessarily an allergy-often times its an intolerance. an yes, excema is often related to some sort of dairy/soy intolerance/allergy.
here is a really good article about allergies and intolerances in relation to reflux:

I think it would be a good idea to try the elimination diet. That way you can pinpoint exactly what is bothering Van. If you do a search I know there are a lot of good threads on this and I think there is some info on the Dr. Sears website. I haven’t done the TED myself, so I don’t know much more than what I’ve read on here, but I know a lot of ppl have had success in finding out what their child is intolerant or allergic to this way. Good luck!June 19, 2007 at 8:42 am #37183AnonymousInactiveno do not use neocate. eliminate all dairy and soy like i said. i couldnt breastfeed.
June 19, 2007 at 9:46 am #37196AnonymousInactiveYes, milk sensitivities can cause eczema. All three of my children had some dairy sensitivity and eczema in the first year and I had to be dairy free while nursing.
I would not give up nursing either. The Elimination Diet will help you to determine what foods effect him so that you can continue breast feeding.
June 19, 2007 at 9:51 am #37198hellbenntKeymasterthere’s a MSPI formum & also a TED forum here, too
in the MSPI forum the top post/stickied post has a breastfeeding section- scroll down
June 19, 2007 at 1:32 pm #37206AnonymousInactiveexcema was caused my dairy in my sons case. he had it all over his legs. hopefully it will help to clear up your sons as well!
June 19, 2007 at 7:39 pm #37267hellbenntKeymasteroh & the foam stools can also be from OALD (overactive letdown)- does he gulp fast when you first start feeding him? does your milk spray?
