I posted earlier about Seth maybe teething because he told us he ‘hurt’ and he has been gnawing on things and restless at night. I determined he was not teething since I counted and he already has all of his primary teeth so somebody suggested he may have an ear infection. So, if he has the ear tubes wouldn’t I see drainage if he had an infection? This is what his ped. told me the last time I took him in for a suspected infection and he ended up not having one. Should I take him in to be checked anyway?
May 30, 2007 at 1:20 pm #34966AnonymousInactiveI would take him in anyway because build up of wax or the drainage can block the tube and keep it from draining, so it may still hurt and he can still get an infection.
Also, how long ago did he get them? They could have fallen out and he does have an infection?
Just thinking out loud…..
May 30, 2007 at 1:26 pm #34970AnonymousInactivethanks, Ann Marie. He has had the tubes about 1.5 years now. We went to the ENT a few weeks ago for a recheck and everything was fine but I guess something could have happened since then. Maybe I will call the nurse and see what they say.
May 31, 2007 at 9:50 am #35083AnonymousInactiveIt never hurts to get them checked out. We were also told though that there would be fluid from the ears if she had an infection.
June 16, 2007 at 3:05 pm #36982AnonymousInactiveI was just coming on here to post this SAME question!!! Tiffany, what ended up happening with Seth? Was it an infection?
Sarah has been pulling, pushing, and tugging on her right ear since yesterday off and on. I was also told to look for drainage…don’t see any…hmmmmmmmmm. If there is “drainage”…will it be yucky and discolored or could it be clear? Sarah had a small wet spot in her crib yesterday when she woke up but it didn’t smell like urine so I figured she drooled. Is that drainage??
June 16, 2007 at 7:41 pm #37002AnonymousInactiveJust wanted to say that I LOVE Seth’s new pic, Tiffany! Where did he get his blond hair from? If I remember correctly you’re a brunette.
June 16, 2007 at 8:10 pm #37004AnonymousInactiveCould it be sinus infection?? I ignored Griffin for a long time when he said his teeth hurt when we were going through some things with Owen (didn’t think I had time to take him to the doc, bad mom!)
Anyway, finally took him to the doc and it was sinus infection……..
Just a thought…… But if his tubes were a year or so ago, could be that too. These kids, they keep us on our toes!
June 17, 2007 at 12:01 pm #37055AnonymousInactiveI was told that the ear tubes can occasionally cause minor pain due to growth and basic movement. Just a thought.
Amy~ I can always tell by smell when Kayleigh’s ears are draining before I actually see it. UGH I thought her baby spit up was bad but this smell is worse. Also her drainage tends to be slightly orange to bloody red I’ve never seen it be clear though so I would say it should have some color to it. Hope that helps.
June 17, 2007 at 1:31 pm #37065AnonymousInactiveLynn – Thank you. That does help. I wonder if she’s going through a growth spurt b/c she’s been sleeping more and eating like a cow!!!
June 18, 2007 at 9:47 am #37100AnonymousInactiveSorry, I am just now responding. Busy weekend!!
Amy, I never took Seth in because whatever he had passed. I am thinking it was a little virus or something or maybe it was a growth spurt (I did not think of that!). Knock on wood, he has never had the drainage or an infection since we had the tubes so I really don’t know what to look for but his ped. did tell me that is a tell-tale sign. How is Sarah today? Didn’t she just have her tubes put in?
Lori, we are not sure where Seth got his blonde hair- DH and I are both brunettes. I guess we both have a recessive gene in there somewhere. We thought for sure it would darken up as he got older but if anything it is getting lighter! His eyes stayed blue too. Everyone asks us about it and DH always says Seth got his features from the mailman!

June 18, 2007 at 10:52 am #37104AnonymousInactiveThanks Tiffany! I think it might have been teething after all. It’s always SOMETHING and it’s always SO confusing!!!! I will keep an eye out for drainage…but I think we’re in the clear this time. Yes, her tubes were placed on the 4th so I’d be a little disappointed to have an infection ALREADY…so hopefully that’s not the case.
