I have heard of some moms starting about two weeks before so that their milk starts out truly “clean”. I can see one advantage of starting the MSPI diet two or more weeks early — it would get you back in the habit of what foods you can and cannot eat so that you get past that initial hurdle of being on a restricted diet.
You also might want to check in advance with the hospital’s food department to find out how you can make sure your hospital-supplied food is safe. If that isn’t possible, then I guess you’ll need to bring food from home.
Also, don’t forget about medicines – will your Dr give you a list of common meds he might choose to give you? Pain meds, antibiotics, anethesia, etc., so that you can check for milk/soy ingredients now while you have time for that sort of thing?
