Dry heaving

My son accidentally gags himself continually throughout the day, which causes him to spit up sometimes. Sometimes when he gags though, he doesn’t have much food in his tummy (because it’s close to his next feed). When this happens he’ll act like he’s going to spit up, but since there IS nothing to spit up he’ll just heave and heave for a long time. His little face will turn red. I just have to hold him upright and wait for it to pass. Is this normal with reflux??

how about some mylanta when he dry heaves to coat his throat?
