Finally got a ped. GI appt. (over 1 month till appt!!) in Orlando (1 hour away!!!) How frustrating is it that I just had to fax a bunch of acid reflux info from marci-kids.com to my pediatrician so he can up our dose? I know I’ve seen everyone say it, but shouldn’t our peds be more informed about this common disease?! I mean, everytime I tell someone that Evie has reflux, they tell me they know “so and so” had reflux as an infant too! My pediatrician told me at first to give Prevacid WITH formula?!?! He had no idea that it needs to be administered on an empty stomach followed up with a meal a half hour later. He also told me to give her 15 mg all at once at any time during the day. Sorry, like I said, just venting!! Let’s keep our fingers crossed that we can go up from 15 mg to 22.5!!!!

I am going to a GI tomorrow in Tampa which is closer for me and I was on a waiting list that started me out a month out and I kept getting pushed closer and closer and ended up only waiting about 2 weeks. I am so sorry! It SUCKS that it takes so much to get into a speciailist for these hurting babies. Do you think 15mg is enough for my almost 8 week old baby? Maybe I should print that dosage chart from Marci-kids and take with me to the GI doc tomorrow. We just started prevacid today and I don’t want to start on the wrong dose. Gosh this is harrowing!
Maybe I can help with the GI situation. You are obviously in FL, I just don’t know which direction. Maybe we can email?

About doctors, I’ve learned the hard way that doctors are not the experts of all things like they always should be. I’ve had a few situations with my own care where the doctor did not know some key information that resulted in me becoming very sick. So I was paranoid long before Hailey rolled around with her reflux.
I’ve learned that when it comes to your health (or your child’s health) you need to make yourself almost as much of an expert as your doctor is so you can be a knowledgeable consumer of health care services. You also need to have a doctor who you can trust, and who is open to listening to new information. I know that is sad, but it’s my paranoia talking.
