cause reflux? I used A LOT of zantac while pregnant with Ryder and he has pretty bad reflux. So this time I have tried not to use it that much.
I am sure this is just wishful thinking but I do wonder……. any ideas on it??March 28, 2008 at 2:59 pm #49517hellbenntKeymasterif you do a search, you’ll find many many posts with all of us wondering
“I wonder if it was the _____ that caused the reflux”Personally, I think there are a few factors:* plain bad luck*genetic predisposition (I tend to think this goes along more often with the mspi/protein issues/allergies cases, but it can of course also go along w/ an immature LES- see next on list)* plain bad luck w/ being born w/ an immature LES (lower esophogeal sphinctor)Personally I don’t think it has ANYTHING to do w/ what happened during pregnancy…that’s just me, but I have been on this board almost 5 (!) years now…these links may be helpful:My response- how long does this last? As a 1rst question: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3541&PN=1&TPN=1
hang in there!!!hugs!!!~lauraps: I just read more carefully:CONGRATULATIONS!!!if you plan on breastfeeding, and, if your prior refluxer(s) had/have mspi, then you might want to cut out all milk & dairy from your diet about 3 to 4 weeks before your due date, thus making your milk like neocate….hellbennt2008-03-28 15:02:03
March 28, 2008 at 3:58 pm #49525AnonymousInactivei agree with laura, i don’t think there is anything we do that causes reflux. i do feel that there is a genetic predisposition for it, though, since i have alot of trouble with it and at least 5 of my kids have been on medication for it at one time or another.
March 28, 2008 at 8:20 pm #49545AnonymousInactiveI agree that it is genetic and there probably isn’t anything we can do about it.
March 28, 2008 at 11:05 pm #49553AnonymousInactiveI had no hearburn symptoms at all during pregnancy, so didn’t take tums, zantac, etc. and both of my kids had terrible reflux. I echo the others, and tend to believe in a genetic predisposition for GERD.
March 29, 2008 at 12:35 pm #49571AnonymousInactivei developed reflux when i was pregnant with my twins—just guessing here, but i think that i probably developed a hiatal hernia from carrying them. however, my second oldest sister had a hiatal hernia and had a fundoplication years ago, and my 3rd oldest sister also has a hiatal hernia. my father also has had problems with reflux.
elliot occasionally tells me that he has food come up to his mouth, but i think it only happens about once a month. i really should be on prevacid, but i was too cheap to buy it, even when we still had insurance. i guess i should check into the free program for people without insurance—i’d hate to end up with more problems. -
