Hi everyone! I am seeking a little advice. Paige is nearly one year now, and as some of you may know, she hasn’t been able to tolerate any solids yet. She is still on Neocate as her only source of nutrition, and thankfully drinks it well and is growing nicely. For the last 2 months, it seems like we have found the perfect balance for her with her med dosages, and not trialing any solids. She has been such a happy little girl – she’s a walking machine, she laughs, claps and babbles away and is an all-around joy! Such a huge difference than just a few short months ago! She does still wake usually twice a night to eat, but I think that is to be expected since she is a growing girl on a solely liquid diet. I would likely be hungry in the night too!
My concern is this – do we try solids again? I have been saying for the last few months that I wasn’t going to put her (or us) through that again until after she turns one. Well, we are almost there. On one hand, it would be wonderful if she could eat some foods. She is VERY interested in food, and is always trying to get at whatever we or her brother are eating. On the other hand, our previous solids trials were so horrendous and tooks weeks to get over, that I don’t want to make this wonderful, happy little girl into a screaming, hurting child! What do you think I should do? Should we try solids again after she turns one, or should I put it off a bit longer? If we do try them, I will start with simple fruits, likely apple or pear, and only add one new food per week. Thanks for your input ladies!November 6, 2007 at 9:13 pm #45128AnonymousInactiveI wish Adi’s mom Tracey was still on here, she would have some answers for you. If I remember correctly she was on Neocate only until 16 months. Maybe you could try to PM here she might still get on every once in awhile.
Don’t really have any advice for you, just lots of good luck wishes! I know how badly you want a happy baby and a baby who can eat something!!November 7, 2007 at 2:19 pm #45141AnonymousInactiveSherri, I totally understand how you are feeling. You want your little one to grow up and move on from this horrible mess, but you are afraid to take the first step, lest the nightmare begin again. I guess the only way to know is to try it. It would wait until the 1 yr. mark and then start with the pears and go very, very slowly. Hopefully, if you just give her a very tiny amount each day and gradually add to it, it won’t be too much in her system to clear if, for some reason, it doesn’t work again.
Keep us posted on what you decide and how it goes.November 7, 2007 at 2:21 pm #45142AnonymousInactivewe have been on neocate also for the longest time.
We just started a food trial again.I think you should go for it, but slow and steady wins the race.I would not recomend apple sauce to begin with as this is very acidic.I started with pears and squash. one week in bewteen. Then i would do peaches, maybe green beans and so on. -
