Oh, and Amelia doesn’t have diarrhea.
March 2, 2008 at 6:47 pm #48756AnonymousInactiveMary, ugh.. what a puzzle, huh? I can’t say I know what to tell you either, but I DO know that teething really, really makes Ben’s reflux worse. He spits when he doesn’t usually anymore. So, that could be some of it.
Also, he can’t tolerate bananas. I have no idea why, but they really throw him for a loop. And, I think I’ve heard raspberries can be hard to digest too. Really, I’m just throwing these out there.I hope you can figure it out! Hang in there.March 2, 2008 at 9:51 pm #48762AnonymousInactiveThanks, Naomi! It really is good just to hear what works/doesn’t work for other people! Maybe it is the bananas??? Or the raspberries??? This is such a guessing game! Amelia has been eating bananas pretty much every morning for breakfast, though, and the spitting up started about three or so weeks ago. I just don’t know. Bananas are the only fruit that she’ll eat in chunks. I have tried sooooo many other fruits, and she just won’t eat them, but will eat the same ones pureed. I am going to bet that the teething may be a big part of it. It was a molar that finally came through, and those can be pretty painful. I will talk to the nurse again on Wednesday. I may get her stool tested for blood. That may give me another clue to an intolerance of some kind. I haven’t noticed any, but my understanding is that it can still be there. So, we’ll see… How is Ben doing on the dairy?
March 3, 2008 at 1:07 pm #48771AnonymousInactiveSo far so good. He is also cutting two molars right now, so his poop has been nasty off and on. He cuts teeth PAINFULLY slowly, so I think that his fussiness and yukky diapers are tooth related.
He had ice cream the other night, and slept just fine and I haven’t noticed anything else adverse. He has also swipped a couple of swigs of his sister’s milk, and it hasn’t seemed to bother him.He has a cold/allergy stuffy nose right now, so I’m a little nervous about trying milk totally b/c I fear I wouldn’t be able to tell if he was having a reaction or was just fussy from teeth and stuffy from the cold. Anyway, I’m sure you know what I mean. He’s still doing the cheese, yogurt and hidden dairy just fine though.I’m thinking 18 months will be when we go for milk wholeheartedly.March 31, 2008 at 12:19 pm #49650AnonymousInactiveI am thoroughly frustrated! I can’t seem to figure out exactly what Amelia can’t tolerate. She spits up mainly after I breastfeed her in the a.m (which may be ending soon…) or after breakfast. Yesterday, however, she spit up about 2 hours after lunch! I did give her black beans for the first time. Maybe that was it??? We are back on milk and cheese for now, and I am still eating milk products (I don’t drink milk). She seems to do fine most of the time. If she is spitting up after I breastfeed in the a.m., that would suggest it’s something I’m eating for dinner since we eat after she goes to bed. I have yet to see that she spits up after her bedtime breastfeeding. I really just don’t know. I would love to wean her off of reflux meds, but I don’t have this under control yet, so I am hesitant. I am just not sure if it’s still reflux or a food intolerance??! She does have poop the consistancy of mashed potatoes quite often. Anyone have a similar situation? What did you do? Amelia is 15 months old. Also, do I still have to try a new food for 3-4 days? I have yet to try any of the highly allergenic foods (fish, citrus, strawberries, nuts, honey directly — I have given her honey in breads etc.) since she has an intolerance of some sort. Any feedback would be great!
March 31, 2008 at 12:48 pm #49651AnonymousInactiveOh, Amelia frequently has coughing episodes when she drinks from her sippy cups. I have several kinds, and I have taken the valves out of the ones that had them because she really didn’t like them with the valves in. Could it be that the milk/water/juice is coming out too fast? I just don’t know, and sometimes the coughing/choking can be a little scary.
