Could it be a cold?

Hi All- I am looking for some advice….

My son Evan, has been on Zegerid for 18 days and was doing amazingly well. All symptoms totally gone, life was great! However, this past Thursday afternoon he started to show signs of reflux, such as squealing and lots of squirming while taking his bottle. It has gotten worse each day since then, with today being horrendous. He will only drink 2oz per feeding compared to the normal 4oz.

Here is where my question comes in… He has a very loose cough. His sister was sick last week and I am wondering if he just has a little cold. Does reflux act up more when your children get colds or coughs? Or, is he coughing because he is refluxing so badly or has maybe even aspirated?

I just can’t believe how quickly we went from being symptom free to worse than we were before we started the Zegerid. We are on 30mgs of Zegerid 3x daily. Evan is only 14lbs so I can’t imagine we’d need to up the dose already? Does anyone have experience with having to increase with this high of a dose to begin with?

Please help, not sure if it’s just a cold or the meds are not working!

these gerdlings seem to react to any illness, vaccines, teething- you name it

see if he can take a decongestant? call your ped I guess- I dont remember when they can start that?

When Abby was just a couple months old, she got a cold and it seemed to flare up her symptoms a bit. Our doctor put her on something called Phenclor Tannate (question the spelling but I don’t have the info here). It cleared it up in just a few days.

Myles’ reflux always got worse when he had a cold.

How did Evan’s night go? Have you heard anything back from Dr. Phillips yet? Hope things get better soon!!

His night was ok, not nearly as bad as I had expected! I upped his dose yesterday to 12mgs 3x. He seems much better today, who knows if it’s the cold or if his meds really needed to be increased!? That’s the trouble with these babes, they should of come with instructions . Dr. Phillips told me that I could increase the Zegerid up to 14mgs 3x daily. I think we’ll start with the 12 and see how that goes. Thanks for your help Robin!
