Constipation and Reflux?

DD (10 1/2 months) is very very constipated. We just saw the pedi today and he’s increased her miralax dose. She’s always had the silent reflux-I can count the number of times she’s spit up since birth on one hand and still have fingers left. This week she’s spit up probably six times? Do you think the severe constipation is making it worse? 🙁

yes… i myself have reflux.. and not to go into detail 😉 .. but i am pregnant.. and boy has it started to act up! I know with both pregnancys i have also been constipated.. AND the constipation and the reflux seem to go hand in hand!

So.. i would def. think the two are related…

Constipation is horrible for reflux! My babe is a silent refluxer as well…..unless he is constipated. If he’s constipated, he is a a not so silent refluxer! I bet once you get the Miralax dose zeroed in, your babe will go back to normal.

Similar problems here. What is your baby eating? Sometimes that can make it worse.

Our DD has had to have Miralax+ about 4 oz of juice pretty much her whole life just to keep her moving. I tried just about everything else- different juices (including prune), Probiotics (which for some reason made it worse), different brand formulas once I stopped BF’ing. Nothing else worked for us, and unfortunately she’s also intolerant of milk so the soy formula makes it even worse. Sigh. Now that she’s starting solids, we’ve at least been able to cut the dose back.

One thng our GI specialist told us is that when babies push down to poop, they have some of the worst reflux episodes, so you may see her spit up when she’s trying to go. Unfortunately for us, this exacerbated the problem because then she started avoiding poop on top of the constipation. These poor little kiddos.

My lil guy has silent reflux and has issues with constipation too. He’s been doing pretty good with apricots and apple juice. The best apple juice is the “Simply Juice”.
