constipation?

So, the last my little one had a poopy diaper was Saturday morning. He seems to be pretty gassy, and it smells pretty bad. I think he used to poop at least 2-3 times per day, sometimes more, sometimes only 1 or 2…. but it is now Monday afternoon….

He began Neocate formula and Prevacid Saturday night. It was already a bit weird that he hadn’t had a poopy diaper all day Saturday. Do you think the constipation is because of Neocate? At what point should I try to do something about it? I’m hoping we won’t have to deal with this a lot.

Alex was very gassy and pooped less when she was on Neocate. According to her doctor and several posts that I remember reading, they poop less because the formula is really broken down and there is less to get rid of. I would do the Mylanta though because I have a vague memory of Alex struggling to poop when we first transitioned over.

Also, Neocate poops are really smelly, green and nasty, so don’t freak out when you see them.

PPI’s can cause constipation too. And for Landen, constipation only weakened his already poor intake of Neocate and it also made him reflux more. We solved this by adding Miralax (clear, tasteless, odorless). Definitely check with your ped first. Mylanta may work too or a little pear or prune juice. Landen was so ‘regularly’ constipated that we need to ‘regularly’ add miralax to the mix.
