Aidan has his first ear infection, and I didn’t even take him to the dr b/c I even THOUGHT he had one, he was there for a killer cold he has with a horrible nasty sounding cough, I could hear rattling in his chest so I took him in to check that…the dr looks into his right ear and says “oh wow this is super infected, horrible red with pus”…WHAT??? Both of my kids are apparently immune to the pain of ear infections (which makes me wonder exactly how painful Aidan’s reflux is to him!!!) the kid was smiling and cooing and giggling at the Dr, as she was saying this!!!Austn used to be the same way, no sign he had an ear infection whatsoever, the firstr one he had was found at his 6 month WELL baby visit and it was as bad as the one Aidan has now!!! Aidan has been comfort feeding lately (another reason I never suspected an ear infection) which has made his reflux a bit worse (I can hear him refluxing)anyway, nothing to make me feel like a horrible mom than to bring my kid in for a cold and be told he has a major ear infection that has been there at least a few days!!!!Well, we have medicine now, hopefully he won’t have a reaction to it (it’s amox. so he shouldn’t)so he’ll be fine soon, I just feel so bad that his ear was infected for a few days and I couldn’t tell…and I almost didn’t take him in today…whew I’m glad I did!!! I just wish the cough would go away he was up last night for what seemed like 30 mins straight coughing(I gave in and gave him the little colds cough supressant I have without asking his dr about doseage, and he finally went to sleep)….
May 29, 2006 at 9:43 pm #8738hellbenntKeymasterear infections are no fun!!
I know what you mean about these little ones & pain! We never knew/know when Jonah has an ear infection either…he just got over one and it was also bcse we brought him in for a cough…I guess I should know by now that when he gets a cold, he most likely will get an ear infection…we were able to fight them off for a good long stretch of time by religiously using saline but now that he’s older we’ve gotten more lax…gotta get back on that I suppose…
anyway, sorry to hear about the ear infection!
http://www.askdrsears.com has dosing info for just about every OTC med, so you can always look there for the dosing…

May 29, 2006 at 10:03 pm #8739AnonymousInactiveWe went through the same thing a few weeks ago. I also felt awful. Hope he’s feeling better soon.
May 30, 2006 at 9:41 am #8745AnonymousInactiveDon’t feel so bad. Until they can talk and tell us, we never really know. I took Liza in once for a cold when she was 7 months old and had no idea she had a raging ear infection. Two days prior she had been doing this strange thing with tilting her head to the side. We thought she was just being cute and making us laugh. Boy did I feel terrible when I found out her ear was infected.
A few weeks ago I took Myles in because he was super irritable. They asked if he had a fever and I said no. They took his temp. and it was 101! I felt like such lousy mother.
I hope Aidan is feeling better soon!
May 30, 2006 at 9:28 pm #8819AnonymousInactiveok, so as soon as the doc diagnosis the ear infection, Aidan actually starts to act like he HAS one..up all night so much fun, refluxing like crazy, spitting up mucus (from the cold/post nasal drip)etc…the house has not been cleaned since friday (when the older one got out of school) and every time I try to start, I either have to feed Aidan, pick him up, or be outside watching my older son (mostly it’s the being outside that hinders me from cleaning)…today I went to target to pick up a few things, and AFTER I got everything rung up I realized I forgot my wallet…I ran out to the car to look for it, and found THE TV REMOTE instead? lord I need some sleep!!!!!
May 31, 2006 at 7:12 am #8828AnonymousInactiveOh no – I hope Aiden feels better soon and you can get some rest!
May 31, 2006 at 9:40 am #8840AnonymousInactiveJill,
Even with a sick baby you probably keep your house cleaner than I do. Hasn’t been cleaned since Friday? That’s less than a week!!
You took the remote instead of your wallet? Even when I’m not tired I do things like that. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve arrived at the bank without the check I was supposed to deposit, gone grocery shopping with no wallet, locked myself and all three kids out of the house, lost my keys at the mall, left my purse or diaper bag somewhere, taken Liza to pre-school without her backpack, forgotten to put wipes or diapers in the diaper bag, gone to the post office without the package I was supposed to mail. The list just goes on and on. And this is when I’m not tired!! Nothing is safe with me except my children. So far I’ve never left them anywhere or forgotten to take them with me!
I hope Aidan is feeling better soon! And I hope you get some sleep.
May 31, 2006 at 12:32 pm #8853AnonymousInactiveI think the not sleeping is becoming a “getting to used to sleeping back in my room” thing than a “I’m in pain thing” but I just can’t tell…he’s still super congested at night but I KNOW his ear is ok b/c he gets tylenol before bed..unless that’s not working…urgh I went searching for the zantac last night before I remembered I threw it away (now that was smart)..maybe the pharmecy still has the script on file..18 lbs that would be about 1.2 ml right? I would use mylanta but Idon’t think it was working the lst time I tried…is there a difference between the origional and the cherry supreme? does the supreme work better? (notice I am trying to give the kid every med in the book at night b/c I can’t figure out if it’s cold related or reflux related)…on a different note, I just found out my mom has baretts esophogus….she has for a long time but never told us..not that I would have known what it was til now…she also gets endo’s all the time..sheesh you’d think she would have told me with Aidan’s reflux and all…
May 31, 2006 at 1:01 pm #8856AnonymousInactiveTylenol is not always strong enough for ear pain or teething. Have you tried Motrin? Myles does much better with Motrin. They make it in infants and childrens. Just be sure to give it with his last meal; and not on an empty stomach.
Aidan was sleeping so well before the ear infection. Hopefully he’ll sleep well again as soon as he is feeling better.
As for the Mylanta Cherry Supreme, I’ve read here that mom’s use that instead of the other types because it does not contain aluminum.
