The swallow study and UGI exposes them to quite a bit of radiation. Much, much more than a simple chest x-ray. Doctors look at me like I’m nuts when I tell them I don’t want to do X test “just because”. I refuse to expose Hailey without a specific reason. She’s had 3 chest x-rays and 2 hip x-rays. Too much in my book but they were totally necessary. They didn’t sheild her ovaries with one of the hip x-rays because I didn’t know to ask for that but the second time around they did sheild her. They warned me that there was a slight risk for a repeat x-ray if the shielding covered what the doctor needed to see. I was willing to take that risk.
MRI’s do not expose you to any radiation.
Lori ~ It would take several, repeated exposures to radiation (in much higher doses) for their to be a problem with Hailey’s fertility. Don’t give it another thought. Should she need to have anymore, ask for an ovary shield!!!
