Ok my daughter, while not quite an infant anymore at 15 months, for the past 3 weeks has been having very strange stool. She does have reflux and the only thing she is on is Prevacid which she has been on for a long time now. Each time she has a bowel movement there are these clearish capsules in the stool. They are about as long as a grain of rice but capsulelike in that they show a liquid in them about 3/4 full. Sometimes there are a few mixed in and sometimes there is a lot. Our pediatrician sent out samples and the results so far have been negative for any parasites and negative for whatever they test for standard in the stool. The pediatrician even said he has no idea what it is and it is strange, we should see a pediatric GI specialist. We’re trying to get an appointment but in the mean time this has me worried. Has anyone seen something like this or have any thoughts as to what this could be? Also, she has shown no signs of fever or anything else out of the ordinary. However, she has not been sleeping well off and on the past few weeks roughly around the time this started but we think it might just be coincidence with her last couple teeth coming through.

Even our pediatrician was unsure what it was. Her diet has been the same for quite a while now so cant imagine it being that.

Has been much pickier and has those little pods in her stool too. The first time she had them there was just a pile of them all at once. Then they were mixed in her stool. Now nothing. Not sure what to think of it. Let me know if you find out anything please.

We have taken her to our reg pediatrician, a pedi GI and finally CHOP. Not a single one of them could figure it out. We took her off the reflux meds and it seemed to go away but then came back a few weeks later. Must have been coincidence. The doctor at CHOP said the only thing they could think of it being is pulp from oranges even though they looked like capsules. I did notice the other day that she ate a large amount of mandarin oranges and shortly thereafter her stool was loaded with the capsules. So, unfortunatley nothing 100%. The drs said there didn’t look like anything harmful since she had no fever or any signs of anything else.August 6, 2012 at 8:12 pm #70678AnonymousInactiveDoes your little one eat mandarin oranges? I noticed these little capsules in my sons stools after he went to Grandmas once. When I asked what all he ate she named mandarin oranges.
