So, we go for another lyrngoscopy (sp?) tomorrow for Carter to see if his airway has grown as the last time we did this at 21 months, he still had the airway of a newborn. When he came out of anesthesia last time, we had to reintubate him as he had trouble keeping his saturated oxygen levels up. He was younger and also had other procedures done, so i am hoping this time to be out patient and back home tomorrow.
Keep your fingers crossed for us for good news and a short visit. Thanks all!Ann MarieOctober 29, 2008 at 8:41 pm #58171AnonymousInactiveOh Ann Marie – I’ll be thinking about you. Please keep us updated. I’ll be praying for a smooth procedure + grown airway.

October 30, 2008 at 8:09 pm #58203AnonymousInactivewell, pretty good news:
Carter’s airway has grown a bit. they could use a 4.5 tube this time! not sure what size he should be at, so i need to research and if anyone knows, feel free to share, but it has grown, so that is great!Still very floppy so we need to monitor that, and coming out of anesthesia was a bit tough, he needed a neb to get better airflow, but pretty quick recovery and we were home by 11:45 this morning, so i think that’s great!thanks for all the well wishes, ladies!October 30, 2008 at 9:07 pm #58205AnonymousInactiveAnn Marie, Dh and I were talking and we both think that an adult tube is an 8 or 9 usually. So that sounds pretty good to me. But let me know what you find out. I have a few friends who are respiratory therapist, but I won’t see them until Monday, but may be able to get in touch with them before then and let you know for sure. Great update.

Give Carter an extra cuddle for all of us for being such a trooper today.

October 31, 2008 at 9:27 am #58210AnonymousInactiveThanks ladies!
Yes, Beth, I can wait till Monday, but if you could ask them that would be great! I found this formula on line:[(Age in years / 4) + 4] should be the diameter of the airway so carter is (2.5 years / 4 ) + 4 is 4.625 so he may be right on track now! That would be so fantastic!!! but not sure if I am reading all of that right, so if you could ask on Monday I would really appreciate it!Carter sounds so junky today as it doesn’t take much as he is still so floppy, but in REALLY good spirits, so we are still going to hope for some trick or treating tonight!Happy Halloween ladies!!!!and Thanks again!Ann MarieOctober 31, 2008 at 11:04 am #58214AnonymousInactiveGreat news Anne Marie!!
