I’m getting ready to move Noah into a forward facing car seat since he is right at 20 lbs. I did lots of research and then hit the stores to find one that fit well. I went to Baby’s R Us since they have a huge display. I ended up with the Evenflo Triumph 5 Deluxe ( it did great on Consumers Guide crash test). I brought it home and put him into it again, and now I hate it. The straps are hard to work with and there’s two on each side. It doesnt seem to fit him right and he looks really uncomfortable. I went back to the store and tried out a few more and nothing caught my eye. I didnt try out any seat over $150.00 cause I thought it was getting to pricey. Does anyone have any recommendations on convertible car seats? I want the best “bang” for my buck too.

I always felt that most 40 pound kids really aren’t ready for the shoulder belt/booster seat thing because they squirm around too much. I have two Britax Wizards. They are easy to install with a fabulous latch system; there are two latch straps, one on each side of the seat so you can install it literally in minutes. Another reason I love this seat is the harness height can be adjusted by turning a knob instead of removing the straps and reinserting them into different slots. I just moved my infant into his big sister’s wizard and it took only a few turns of the knob to make it fit him properly.
This seat can be used rear facing up to 30 or 35 lbs, and it has side impact protection for the head/neck which also makes a nice place for baby to rest his head for sleep.

She rode comfortably rear facing until she was 18 months old. (I wanted to wait until 2 years, dh wanted to switch at a year, so we compromised.) As Christine said, it’s really easy to install and to adjust. We love it!

BTW, great news on Noah reaching 20 pounds!!! (Do they have to stay rear facing until 20 pounds?… I can’t remember the rules).

They also have nice little velcro patches on the backs of the straps that stick to the side of the seat so when you take the baby out the straps don’t fall back behind the baby. I really like that feature.
