I have to say that I never found a GI that I loved, in that I couldn’t find anyone who would up Hailey’s dose to anything near marci-kids. I’ve been through a lot of GI’s though, so I know who I don’t like, but don’t want to slander.
The thing is that you need a pediatrician referral to see a ped GI here (or at least a GP referral). If your friend’s child’s problems are severe, then I would suggest asking for a referral to sick kids hospital sooner rather than later b/c the wait list is ridiculous to get in there (over 6 months when we were waiting). If the problems are more mild, I really liked a doctor Helina Leung at Centennary Health center in Scarborough in terms of compassion and caring. She was very understanding, but went by Sick Kids standards for dosing (which seems to be the gold standard around here) and is conservative in that it’s nothing near marci-kids. Sick kids was in the end the place where Hailey got a high dose of PPI, but only b/c I fudged the numbers a bit, and the doc just continued the script. I guess that doesn’t say much… not even sure if it helps. Let me know if she needs more specific info. Where in Ontario is she moving? Chedoke-McMaster in Hamilton also has a big peds department, but no personal experience with them.
