I’ve been using this for about a week and the bottle won’t pump now. I have taken it off and followed the instructions on cleaning it but it still won’t pump. I’ve cleaned it 3 times. Is anyone else having problems with the bottles? I emailed and asked for a replacement but haven’t heard anything. I find that I don’t get hardly any responses!
Also so DD is on a higher dose (10mg) with this solution and it seems like now she’s refluxing. Do you think the meds are wearing out sooner? The instructions say use withing 28 days for the Prevacid, it’s only been a week. The stuff in the clear bottle has turned pinkish. I thought the Prevacid will turn pinkish but both of them have some kind of a different color now.
So what I’ve been doing is opening the bottle and gettting the liquid out myself, then mixing them in a bowl and then putting it in a syringe and then give it to DD.What are your experiences? I’m just trying to decide if I should stick w/ this or just use the capsules and put it in applesauce or go back to the solutabs. Thanks!February 21, 2009 at 11:00 am #61176AnonymousInactiveWe’ve had bottle/pump issues too. I just pull equal parts from each side to make the dose. The buffer is what turns pink and that’s ok. We have been using it for about 3 weeks and weren’t seeing much improvement at all, and we just got a few days worth of solutabs to try and on day 3 of those he started eating again! So I am a little skeptical now of the bufferbabies. Some people have said that it didn’t work as well for them or for one child as another and I think we might be in that group too… Crappy thing is that I just refilled his capsules prescription and now that I think we want to stick with solutabs I will have to pay for a whole month. BUt whatever it takes to make him feel better right?
February 21, 2009 at 12:31 pm #61178AnonymousInactiveYou know I think I’m gonna stick with the solutabs too. I paid $38 for the 28 capsules I put in this solution! That sucks. I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one though. We were in a hurry and got our capsules from Target Pharmacy. We usually order Prevacid thru Medco and it cost us $70 for a 90-day supply.
I washed the bottle again, I tried to take the actual tubes out but I think it will break if I do that. This pump is not a very good quality. The only drawback with the solutabs is that you have to wait 30mins but it’s doable. It also has aspartame which I’m very leary of using.TheaFebruary 21, 2009 at 3:10 pm #61179hellbenntKeymasterI emailed dr philips and gave him the link to this thread.
here is his response:Sometimes negative feedback is good as it makes one re-evaluate whether there are improvements that can be made.
So I welcome the feedback
Sorry they are having the problems, this was in testing for some time and was very expensive to implement, however, if it is clogging then it is obviously not working for some persons.
Dr PFebruary 21, 2009 at 7:06 pm #61182AnonymousInactiveThanks for emailing him. For me, the bottle is not the only concern. I just feel like it’s not helping much, she was doing great with the solutabs. But our GI wants her off the solutabs because it has lactose monohydrate and my DD is allergic to milk. I’ll give it more time, maybe a few more days because I spent money on those capsules. I was really, really hoping this would work for my daughter, I was so excited to try it.
I hope no one got the impression that I was bad mouthing that company, because all I wanted was to hear if other people are having problems w. the bottle and with their LO’s not doing well on the Buffer Babies.February 22, 2009 at 1:15 pm #61188hellbenntKeymasterI wasn’t thinking anything about bad-mouthing! you’re posting your experiences and I feel badly, because we did so well with caracream!
February 22, 2009 at 6:01 pm #61193AnonymousInactive🙂 Ok good….I don’t want anyone to look bad, that’s just not me. LOL. I was wondering if it’s the Prevacid. Because I saw some posts in another forum and seems like some moms using Prevacid with Buffer babies were having problems too. Maybe I should switch to Prilosec?
Laura, what meds did u use w. caracream? Is that phased out now or can we still get that? I’ve never had compounded meds before.ThanksFebruary 22, 2009 at 6:13 pm #61194hellbenntKeymasterwe used frist prilosec and then prevacid with the caracream- caracream is the predecessor to bufferbabies- it tasted to me like a yogurt-covered pretzle- salty/sweet
another mom stated that the caracream with the prilosec was very bitter- maybe I didn’t taste it when we had the caracream w/ prilosec, lol, but the prevacid tasted good with it, lolI don’t think you can get it anymore, bcse they made the new & ‘improved’ bufferbabies, which it seems is a work in progress…b/t caracream being no longer available, and then the appearance of bufferbabies, zegerid arrived on the scene. there are many many raves about zegerid and this IS available and it also is a liquid and it also can be given at anytime, irregardless of an empty or full stomach. Zegerid, however is only made with the drug that is prilosec…you can always try using your capsules w/ a teaspoon of applesauce- not sure how to get this into a baby that is not eating solids yet- but it IS possible- give chased with some water- given this way it needs to be given on an empty stomach, follwed by a meal 30 minutes laterFebruary 22, 2009 at 8:05 pm #61197AnonymousInactiveLaura – I just saw ur siggy and I’m so interested how you weaned off your LO’s from meds. I see you had 2 reflux babies.
My DD is teething molars right now and I think this is aggravating her reflux. For the past week she sounds like she’s growling. Haven’t heard that in a while. Doesn’t that sound like reflux? It’s like every now and then, not all the time, but when she talks it sounds like she has a growl in her voice! I looked online to see if this was a symptom, can’t find it.I’m so tired of this and I just want her off meds now. I’m desperate, I want to take her to a chiropractor too and a naturopath in hopes it might help. I have GERD and I was on Prilosec for 1.5 yrs and I quit cold turkey. Bad idea. But I was able to manage the acid by chaning my diet and homeopathic stuff and herbs but I don’t feel comfortable giving these herbs to my 17 month old daughter yet. So it’s been 3 yrs and I’ve been off PPIs. It was not easy. Sorry I got off tangent.TheaFebruary 22, 2009 at 9:14 pm #61201hellbenntKeymasterThea,
my second baby was born w/o reflux, thank G-d!!!!I did take jonah to the chiropractor- I don’t think it was a cure in any way shape or form, but it certainly didn’t hurt! He liked itI have also read tremedous things about cranial sacral massage…at the time when jonah was born, the closest practitioner was too far away. I hear there are some in my town now, though…there are many who have found great succes w/ probiotics and enzymes:and also organic aloe vera juice…teething most certianly does aggrevate reflux…February 22, 2009 at 9:23 pm #61202AnonymousInactiveThanks. She uses Kyo-Dophilus, it’s the only one I can find that’s dairy and soy-free.
That’s what I was talking about, the cranial massage. I’m willing to try it. I’ll check out that link you posted, thank you so much. Now I wonder if I should have tried weaning sooner. 🙁
Is she old enough to take aloe vera juice? It has a mild laxative effect to it, I used to drink it when I went off cold turkey off Prilosec. Thanks!Thea -
