lori~ i read your first post and was like oh thank you GOd.. and than read you last post..and was like ohh no! hmm… maybe i can ask my GI.. but i am not sure if they would tell me because.. they think there is nothing wrong with the amount of aluminum in the gaviscon that they are giving him.. thats what the nurse said when i asked her yesterday.
sooo.. i doubt they would look into that one for me..
well… if you figure it out somehow that would be great!! i have been saying to myself ..why cant someone just make one with out aluminum!? but i have come to realize most of the antacids contain it..and obviously the drug companies dont realize they are toxic at all..

It’s such a tough call. If it’s the only thing that’s worked for him, I’d be tempted to go ahead and give it to him, at least for a while. Maybe he’ll get used to sleeping normally and you’ll be able to gradually reduce the amount.
March 29, 2007 at 10:26 pm #28978AnonymousInactivethanks kim, my GI’s nurse said the same thing. but, i did give it to him today for his nap because he had such a horrible night last night, and yes he did sleep great for his nap! but, i am just wondering how often is too often each day? and it only lasts 4 hrs. soo if i give it in the middle of the night..he might get upset if he sees me..and than he will want a bottle most likely to get back to sleep.. and you cant give a bottle after the med. and it’ll be a big mess every night in the middle of the night, and i am NOT looking fwd to that! soo.. i am just trying to figure out how often is too often and when to do it is best.
thanks again everyone!

At the time, she was eating every two hours, so it worked out to be about 2 tsp a day for a while. After about a month, I got nervous about the aluminum and switched to the cherry supreme.

I gave her one tablet based on the amount of calcium carbonate, and the amount of alginic acid in one dose of adult gaviscon. I figured that one dose of liquid gaviscon should be similar to one dose of tablet gaviscon, then I compared it to the maalox, and just decided that one tablet would be fine. But that was just a judgment call. In our case, I’m not going to do it again b/c Hailey’s night was a mess.
Maybe you can ask Dr. Phillips? He’s actually a pharmacist so he should know. (?)
