Anyone ever have any problems w/ birth control pills & your LO’s sensitive system?
I started the Nora-BE mini pills on Sunday night & since then Evan’s had super stinky gas (& intermittent mucousy diapers… super mucous though the past 2 days). I don’t think there’s been anything else added into my diet that he hasn’t tolerated before. He’s also sick (passed onto him by Brodie) & so maybe that’s it… who knows . Brodie had bad diarrhea yesterday & Evan’s about 3-4 days behind him w/ symptoms.I’m going to try to find the ingredients online. I asked my OB about it @ my 6wk pp visit (when he wrote the script) & he said he didn’t think there was any milk/soy (or lactose) but he wasn’t completely sure. I have been putting off starting them b/c I was worried Evan would react somehow… but then decided I need to start them b/c I really can’t juggle a 3rd kid yet .August 29, 2008 at 2:54 pm #55871AnonymousInactiveUPDATE:
Low & behold, they have lactose in them . So hopefully that’s the cuplprit of the stinky gas & mucous diapers.August 29, 2008 at 5:39 pm #55873AnonymousInactiveI wonder why lactose is added to so many meds?
August 29, 2008 at 10:21 pm #55891AnonymousInactiveI almost bet they use it as a natural preservative… I would guess it is very small amounts, but since Evan is so sensitive I bet they are the problem. I would guess it is probably in all birth control pills. Do you have access to the patch? Meaning will your insurance cover it..That maybe your only option for awhile. Good Luck.
August 30, 2008 at 10:12 am #55899AnonymousInactiveI know – I was thinking that it must be such a small amount! I mean, how much lactose could really be in such a small pill?! (It also has corn starch too though). BUT Evan is so sensitive that I guess that could be affecting him.
I don’t think I can do the patch. Since I’m bf’ing I have to be on progestrone-only birth control (so it doesn’t affect my milk supply). I was under the impression (after both Brodie & Evan were born) that my only 2 options were the mini pill or the shot. Maybe I’m wrong (or maybe my OBs didnt’ offer the patch to me for whatever reason).August 30, 2008 at 11:12 am #55901AnonymousInactiveI did the shot after Kylie was born and it was horrible. I gained a ton of weight and felt horrible. My moods were really messed up. It also took away my period (which was the good part). But when I went off Depo, it took like a year for my cycle to come back and for me to feel normal.
August 30, 2008 at 2:01 pm #55915hellbenntKeymasterI dunno…did the mini pill w/ both boys due to breastfeeding…maybe there’s a brand that doesn’t have lactose?
August 30, 2008 at 3:15 pm #55923AnonymousInactiveHmmmm I don’t know since I wasn’t successful with breastfeeding I am not much help. But I have heard many bad things about the shot from many people. Maybe a diaphragm would be your best bet for right now. But again I don’t think they are 100% either…. hmmmm. Makes you think.
August 30, 2008 at 3:23 pm #55925AnonymousInactiveYeah, I’ve heard not great things about the shot as well… so it’s not even an option (for me anyway).
I looked up all the brand names of the mini-pill & they all contain lactose & corn starch.
So, I guess we’ll just have to find another method-lol. I honestly don’t think I’m ovulated @ all yet (I didn’t get a period until 11mths pp w/ Brodie).I’ve oftened wondered about a diaphragm… I’ve never used one but have heard of ppl swearing by them. -
