Been on Prevacid for a week and symtoms worse!?!?

My four month, 15 pound, baby has been on Prevacid for a week now (6.9mg 2x per day). Her symptoms, I believe, have gotten worse. She is barely sleeping at all (maybe 4-5 broken up hours per night and a few 15 minute naps during the day). She is constantly grunting and making noises. And she is now trying to shove her whole hand in her mouth. I think she’d do her arm too if it’d fit . She’s also having more frequent “spells” where she is pretty much inconsolable for 30-60 minutes. she’s also having more gas that sometimes seems to be painful for her.

I called the specialist yesterday and her suggestion was to REDUCE the amount of Prevacid to 3mg 2x per day). This seems to go against what marci-kids recommends for her dosage. She recommended that lower dosage for 1 week, then she would try Prilosec. So now I don’t know what to do!!

Any ideas?

before the prevacid was she on zantac or any other medication (pepcid or tagament or axid)?

if so, then it can take up to 14 days to see the full effects of the prevacid and so now, if she was on zantac (or pepcid or tagament or axid), it’s as though she’s not on any medication at all…

What form of prevacid is she on? The dose sounds like a compound which tend to not be made correctly and that may be part of the problem as well. And Ditto to what laura said.

We are on Prevacid, it allows him to not cry for 16 hours, just long spells off and on. We see him go through 4 day blocks, able to at least eat a little, then not at all. I think it does some things, but it is not even close to the answer. We have also tried about 5 other medications and were told you need to get the one that works for your baby, which could take forever.

I think the medications quell the issues a little, but the major issue is always there and typically wins out above all other things. I think there are people that stumble across the right combo, I hope you can find that combo, we have not and the old switch aroo continues for the right meds and formula.

The one specialist told us that they can mess with the molecular structure on the meds and have to do this because every kid has a different body chemistry, so until you find the right combo it will not work.
