man, this just plain sucks. we’re only a bit into our day with alimentum and madelyn is a mess. how am i ever going to hold out two weeks or more to really allow it to ‘work’? bf on this crazy diet has made me a little loopy, worrying about every little thing i put in my mouth. i know that ultimately, switching is the best choice for me and when i’ve eaten some inane thing that upsets her, i know it’s the best for her too. however, times like now where she’s wailing her head off makes me want to say, hell with it! i’ll do the damn diet forever! even though i know my limitations, and i have met the wall…
we’ve also started zantac as of late last night with really good results. however, i’m wondering if all of these changes aren’t making it difficult to spot the culprit of tonight’s wailing. zantac started, alimentum, possible gas and constipation b/c of these changes in her diet, etc. anybody just give their babes the h2 blockers on an as needed basis? she doesn’t typically need it when my diet is good, but ….. oh i don’t know.
sorry to ramble. just never wanted to be here again except to offer advice. boohoo for me but mostly for that little girl.

I thought I wouldn’t be here again either… I thought it was a fluke with Brianna, but low and behold, I am here again. But I will tell you this, you are armed with so much information from this site that you are already so much farther ahead than you were with Riley. McKenzie has benefited from her sister in that I knew it was reflux from the begining, I knew about PPIs, elimination diets, marci-kids, etc…so here at 5 months McKenzie is sleeping through most nights (maybe waking up once here and there) and napping much better than her sister ever did at this age.You will get through it, we are here to help. I have to say, I didn’t wait the full two weeks with McKenzie for Alimentum…I just trusted my mommy instincts. You say she has allergies to dairy, soy, wheat and corn…how did you go about determining that? Did you do the TED?July 21, 2008 at 8:20 am #54252AnonymousInactiveHi Gina,
Glad to see you but sorry you are here for the reasons you are. Both boys did not get breastfed for long, so I can not offer much advice, but I am so sorry you are goign through this again.. LOVE the name Madelyn, btw and the spelling!I did not do the h2 blocker as needed, but def. did the mylanta cherry supreme as needed and quite a bit.Hang in there! I’ll keep my fingers crossed that things get worked out/better quickly!Ann MarieJuly 21, 2008 at 8:46 am #54253AnonymousInactivethanks emily and ann marie! it’s so ironic that i’m sitting here in front of the computer screen, hoping for support, seeing it in your msgs and tearing up…just like with riley! goodness
your words are comforting. thank you very very much. as for the alimentum, i will probably do just that…trust my instincts. she tends to have a ‘fussy time’ in the evening anyway, so i was chalking it up to that and all the changes. at this point, barring any craziness erupting, i will see how her body adjusts and go from there.
as for her allergies/intolerances, she didn’t show any except the dairy until about 5.5 wks. indicators for all when consumed were extreme fussiness, mucousy green or brown stinky stools, blood in her stool, full body rash, horrendous diaper rash that wouldn’t go away, etc. even at her very very best with my diet, she seemed to fight sleep and that was also always my indicator. i don’t believe a baby so young fights sleep for no reason. she was uncomfortable in some way and i wasn’t seeing it until everything else came out.
my reason for asking about doing the zantac prn (as needed) is b/c my concern for side-effects. our children tend to exhibit the most uncommon of side effects or they display with a passion the most common. for instance, if it causes sleeplessness, that’s what we get, etc. i was concerned we were seeing that last night.
also, she is refluxing like mad. again, something she rarely seemed to do when i was really on my diet. at night, it will wake her up but only b/c it takes her breath away. she doesn’t cry out b/c she’s been dosed with the zantac i suppose. without it, she definitely experiences pain. it’s just frustrating. i don’t want to examine every minute detail at this point b/c it will not only drive me crazy but i really do feel i need to give it some time to see if this is a pattern or just her adjusting to all the changes. i have a call into the drs office, but don’t know if that’s going to offer me anything that will provide relief/answer my questions. it’s just a waiting game.
emily, did your dr prescribe neocate? stupid question, maybe. just wondering since it is available on ebay if you just went with it on your own instinct.
thanks again ladies. have a great day!
July 21, 2008 at 9:15 pm #54275AnonymousInactiveI did just go with my instinct, but my Ped would have prescribed it anyway. But since you don’t need a prescription to buy it and I knew my insurance wouldn’t cover it (darn them HMOS) I just bought it. My GI did give me a free can so that was nice and if you go to http://www.testforallery.com and fill out a question thing then they will send you a free can. The problem is that a free can only last a couple of days and often it can take longer than that to see a change. I noticed a difference in McKenzie right away though….the fussiness after ever feed was pretty much gone.
