Thanks for all your replies!
My DH and I went over the article and dosage of zantac, and it seems like my DD’s ped. is giving her the correct dosage, but its the lowest possible for her weight. So I guess he wants to rule out any anatomical abnormalities before he increases her dose, but if she’s at her lowest dosage already, then surely we have some ‘wiggle room’ right??? It’s not like increasing her dose towards the upper limit is dangerous if ITS STILL WITHIN THE LIMIT!!! Geez.
As for a Ped. GI, I wouldn’t even know where to find one, I suppose dd’s ped. would have to refer her, but he won’t until she’s had the upper GI!!! Arrrrgh. And to top it all of, I called to ask him if I could give her some (aluminum free) mylanta to soothe her when she’s particularly fussy, but he said he ‘wasn’t comfortable’ with us mixing medications for such a small infant (she’s 7 wks old by the way) …. I just don’t know what to do anymore, and meanwhile, its breaking my heart to see little Inara in so much pain. I just get the feeling that noone is taking us very seriously, and its so hard to get a hold of anyone that can make an ounce of difference right now.
Thanks again for all your help,

tons of moms on here were given the okay by their doctors to give mylanta!
so wait, your regular pediatrician is going to do the GI?
also, maybe you can find a different pediatrician-one that will refer you to a GI right away.
honestly, in my opinion if your reg ped doesnt want to refer you then
they are just cocky-they do not know enough about how to treat this,
yet the do not refer you because they are too arogant. in the meantime,
your baby continues to suffer!docs make me mad sometimes!

yes, you DO have ‘wiggle room’!
do you need a referral bcse of your insurance?
just up & demand a referral now- can’t hurt- tell ped: what if she’s not refluxing at the time they give her the upper gi? your goingto tell me she’s not in PAIN??!!!
August 24, 2006 at 3:17 pm #12202AnonymousInactiveI’m sorry you’re getting the runaround from your ped. Whereabouts are you? Maybe we can help you to find a ped GI (and/or a new ped, haha). Really, if you could find a new ped, that would be great as well. Many babies outgrow reflux during their first year, but in our experience, we’ve also learned that many babies do not. If your ped doesn’t take your daughter’s condition seriously then that can make things all the more difficult. It’s so frustrating. My dd developed a serious feeding aversion, and people still didn’t take us seriously. Welcome to the site. I hope that you can find the help you need. Hang in there.
