Actually, Noah is 4 years old and he is more aware of what is happening around him. I am afraid that he won’t drink it.

Yes, it may be harder because he is older. I saw a boy about 6 years old there at the same time, and he was drinking a cupfull. The father was bribing him with treats when he was done. Is there anything you can do bribe him so he’ll drink it?

Actually, given his age, I would call the department that’s going to be doing the test before hand and talk to one of the nurses. Tell them your concerns, and ask them if there’s anything you can do to prepare him or that they can do that day to help him to drink it. Maybe they can add it to something.

I’ve heard that you can actually flavor it. One of my friends told me that they put some chocolate syrup in the barium to make it more pleasurable for their older kid. I would call ahead of time just to be sure.

Noah had his upper GI exam. He did wonderful. He has totally surprised me and showed me how mature he is (he is only 4 years old). THey flavored his barium with orange flavor (his request), and we used a surenge to give him the barium drink. The funny thing is, he was asking for more – because he was so thirsty. Anyways, radiologist said that everything looked good, but he will still send everything to our dr. I am so glad that this is over. Thank you for your support!!!
