Bad breath??

Is this a reflux sign? My 4.5 month old’s breath was BAD today and it smelled acidy. Should I call the MD or is this normal (never noticed it before!)

acid breath usually meant that landen’s reflux was acting up. sometimes it meant he was sick or coming down with something, and sometimes it meant he needed a med increase. does she have room for a prevacid increase?

Cooper’s breath still sometimes has an acidic smell to it. I know she is young but are you “brushing” yet? It could just be “bad breath”, but like Jill said it could be a reflux flare.. you guys are at the 4-7 month peak time…

Cooper’s mom– this is off topic, but I have to ask about this peak period? My little one has had reflux since birth, but it only started being a real problem when he was 4 months and one week old. Where did you learn about this peak period? Was it true for you? It gives me hope that after 7 months he’ll return to his previous non-severe reflux state.

How long does GER last?

Symptomatic GER usually starts between two to four weeks of age, peaks around four months of age and begins to subside around seven months of age, when babies begin spending most of their days upright, start solid foods and by the law of gravity, food stays down easier. Most infants will outgrow GER by one year of age – I call this “walking away from GER.” Yet, in some children, GER continues throughout childhood, and sometimes into adulthood, where it is manifested more by “heartburn” and “wheezing” episodes.
