Thanks… the doctor could not find anything wrong with him… ie he has no sore throat, or cold, does not look like stomach is affected because he has normal poops (when he goes, which he still does even after 3 days of eating very little!), no ear infections… so we are going to hospital this morning. They will do a urine test (they will have to insert a catheter because the ped does not want a potential contamination from anything) and then right after that he will put him on antibiotics… he wanted to wait on antibiotics because they can then disturb the test and they want to know what he has…
He said that it could be:
– Bacteria — ie urine infection or something like that
– a virus, which will come out in the test
He said that sometimes babies have a really high fever and vomitting and on the 4th day they get a rash alll over their body… donĀ“t remember what it is called
– then he said that some babies go for 4 days with really high fever and vomitting and it usually just disappears on its own but given that Matthew has a tendency not to eat, he wants to find out what it is so that next time we can act quicker
Poor one did not sleep last night at all but we were able to get into him 5 ounces of neocate via the tube, really slowly…he threw up very little this morning, so that is a step forward!!!
February 7, 2006 at 3:12 am #989AnonymousInactiveIt’s called roseola. I was going to mention it to you earlier, because I was wondering about it when you initially mentioned the high fever. Sarah (my older daughter) had roseola when she was 10 months old- sudden onset very high fever for several days without other symptoms, fever eventually broke, and then she was covered in a rash. After that she felt better and was back to herself. I hope that you get answers soon, and that he feels better even sooner.
February 7, 2006 at 6:23 am #993AnonymousInactiveActually, I had that when I was little (not a baby but like 6 or 7). I
don’t remember what it was either but I almost had to get a feeding
tube and it took a long time to recover. I had a rash all over my tummy
and no appetite/couldn’t keep food down and high fever. Don’t really
remember more than that.Poor Matthew and poor you. Hope he feels better soon. Let us know what happens today.
February 7, 2006 at 7:56 am #995hellbenntKeymasterI’m an odd duck and actually had roseola in college!
no fun!!!
I hope matthew is feeling better soon!
February 7, 2006 at 9:21 am #998AnonymousInactiveRoseola… that may be it! Cannot remember the name at all but sounds like you guys are right on top of it!
They did the urine test this morning and he is now on antibiotics – Augmentine… he is getting all food through tube, very small amounts, i am talking like 20mls every 30 or 40min and he can hold that down… his fever is still 101 but he has been sleeping all day (NOTHING LAST NIGHT) and is now playing on his saucer!
Ped said that he will call me in 2 days to get the results (he will have some answers really soon on whether it is something major but he does not think so)… and in the meantime to keep him hydrated!
February 7, 2006 at 9:41 am #1002AnonymousInactivePoor little Matthew! I feel so bad for both of you! I hope is eating and feeling better soon!
February 7, 2006 at 10:47 am #1011AnonymousInactiveKeep us posted on the test results but I’m glad he seems to be playing
and taking small amounts of food. We’ll continue to think of you guys.February 9, 2006 at 1:07 pm #1224AnonymousInactiveThais – how are you guys doing? Is Matthew feeling better?
February 9, 2006 at 9:35 pm #1253AnonymousInactiveNot sure how but I missed this the last couple of days – hopefully by now he’s doing much better.
February 10, 2006 at 3:16 am #1260AnonymousInactiveMy thoughts are with you Thais and Matthew I hope he feels much better soon x x
February 12, 2006 at 10:35 pm #1418AnonymousInactiveYou must be exhausted, Thais. Please, take care of yourself through all this.
February 14, 2006 at 11:22 am #1501AnonymousInactiveHas anyone heard from Thais? Am concerned about her and Matthew and hoping they are OK.
February 14, 2006 at 11:41 am #1502AnonymousInactiveI was thinking the same thing, Karen. Please update if anyone has heard…..
February 14, 2006 at 12:15 pm #1503AnonymousInactiveI have her email address – sending a message right now…
February 16, 2006 at 6:51 am #1640AnonymousInactiveHello!
Sorry, my dad’s computer broke and i had no way of accessing email (remember, in Madrid, there are not a lot of places to get into internet if you do not have it at home!!). I am in NYC for a couple of days to see David, so i have a couple of minutes to write back!!
Thanks for your concern… so Matthew was throwing up and had high fever. We went to ped the monday before last adn he said he could not see anything causing it ( i posted about what he thought). We got the urine on Tuesday and started him on antibiiotics after that. Fever disappeared after 36 hours and throwing up continued for a couple of days and then stopped!! The results came back and he did have a urine infection (this is prob the third, so the doctor said whenever he starts with fever, we got to him, he will see if anything is causing it, take a urine test and start him on antibiotics stratight away).
So he is feeling great now — at the 6th month appointment he weighed about 8 more ounces than at the 5th so everyone was happy, although close to falling from bottom of curves….. but doctor said that we are doing OK. Matthew refused to eat for almost 9 days and so we were putting some food through his tube but because he was throwing up so much, he was not getting much in. Now, he is back to taking some for his 4 meals…. not a lot, but we are going slowly. He had 6moth shots and did great, no fever, no reaction… and he had a whole ogurt yesterday after one of his meals!!! (I was flying, so my mom told me!!!)
I am goign to try to catch up with the posts…..thank you all for asking!!
