Well, at 5 and 1/2 days sadly I put Justice back on his meds. Day four the fussiness started and a little bit of refusing to eat. Day 5 he wouldn’t let me put him down and every time I tryed to feed him he would pull off, roll onto his back and cry. As the night went on he got worse. I only had one dose to give so for the moment that is all he has had. I feel horrible! I feel like I should’ve waited longer and yet feel like I did the right thing. Well, I am not trying again for another 3 months. Once he’s nine months I will try again.
I hate reflux!!!!!!!!!!! Now I’m back to dealing with does his dose need to be increased at any point. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you all for being so supportive. I know moms say this all the time, but I couldn’t have done this without you. I would’ve gone crazy just like I did with my first.

At least you know that the meds are helping, and since they’re quite safe, you don’t have to be in too big of a rush to wean. We’ve decided to try to wean based on symptoms instead of age- when I don’t hear her reswallowing anymore, don’t see her arch, she can sleep without refluxing too much, and her feeding is improved, then we’ll try a wean. I figure there’s no magic age when she’ll outgrow it, so best to wait until I don’t see the symptoms anymore. Hope your next try goes better.
November 14, 2006 at 9:43 am #17987AnonymousInactiveSorry to hear the news, Shelby. Try not to be so hard on yourself. Reflux is such a challenge for all of us and we all do the very best we can for our babies. At least now you know the meds were helping him and you won’t feel conflicted about givng it to him.
I hope he’s feeling better again soon.
November 14, 2006 at 9:53 am #17993AnonymousInactiveSo sorry to hear this too… when you said you were going to wean him off the meds at 6 months, it gave me hope that 6 months was the magic number.. something for us to look forward to. If he seemed so much better on the meds, then you know they are working and hopefully it won’t be too much longer until he doesn’t need them anymore.
November 14, 2006 at 2:15 pm #18013AnonymousInactivei second what naomi said! you did it for us too! 😉 we were looking and hoping to see that justice didnt need them either. oh well, we know they are pretty safe, and its just as long as he is comfortable! at least you have an answer

November 14, 2006 at 10:09 pm #18064AnonymousInactiveThanks you guys. I was hopeing 6 months would be the age too. He wasn’t having any reflux symptoms and I started thinking that maybe him not sleeping had something to do with his meds. So, I thought I’d give it a shot. At this point I am no longer giving him the mylanta with his zegerid. I don’t know if that will change or not. Also, I started mixing it differently. I used to mix it all in a cup and now I am mixing it in a medicine bottle. With the cup I had to stir it and it wasn’t covered and with the medicine bottle it is covered and I shake it. I only had one dose of his meds. left just in case the weaning didn’t work. When I got the cup out of the fridge the medicine was sticky and gooey. I actually had to add some water to it just to use it. Do you guys know if the meds have to be covered?

Just my opinion, but I would really encourage mixing the Zegerid in syringes. You will have a lot less waste and it keeps it air tight and very easy to use. If you need syringes, I would be happy to mail you some (I have a ton!!) Just PM me if you want me to.
