I’m pretty sure that Aidan’s reflux has surfaced again. He has had a few little episodes since going off his prevacid at 13 months, but this time it seems to be sticking around, well I think, he still doesn’t talk well enough for him to tell me, but I’ve heard the telltale “wet cough” and swallow enough times within the past week to guess. I’m just so drained. He screams all the time again, and while I know he’s cutting his eye teeth (which is pure hell from what I’ve seen) nothing seems to soothe him.
His bottom is literally blistered from diaper rash, even though I slather him up with cream, and change his diaper oh probably a zillion times a day. The only food change I have made is cutting out berries, which he loves, but that didn’t solve anything. I still have some leftover prevacid, but I’m not sure if I should start that again or wait it out. For now I give him his zantac from time to time. I’m 100% sure his ped will think I’m nuts if I bring this up. but I think the ENT might take it seriously (thankfully he has another appt. tomorrow).UGH this is so frustrating for me and him. He understands boo-boo, and tells me his ear hurts (but that’s been checked). And points to his nose saying “niffles” (sniffles) which by now I know means he probably has another sinus infection. I’m just so tired of him hurting and I know he is too. I hate playing the “will this work” game with OTC meds like benadryl and motrin….I’m just not sure if I should start the prevacid again knowing that I probably won’t get any refills, and I have no idea what to do with his diaper rash..sorry about the long post, but I know you guys will understand. It was bad having a screaming newborn but this is literally breaking my back.July 26, 2007 at 7:36 pm #39918AnonymousInactiveOh no! I’m really sorry to hear that, Jill. My inclination would be to try the Prevacid because if it helps then you will have confirmation that reflux is the problem. And then you can start working on the doc for a new prescription.
Gosh, I hate the fact that your poor little guy is still sick. It’s just not fair.Good luck with ENT tomorrow. Please let us know how it goes.July 26, 2007 at 9:09 pm #39927AnonymousInactiveThanks. I think I will try the prevacid and see if there’s any change. I remembered that the ENT rx’d the zantac for him because his thinking was maybe if he was still refluxing it might be getting into his sinuses. It also could be living in Georgia!!!!! I swear whenever something else blooms, it might look pretty but all hell breaks loose in my kid’s noses!!!! Honestly it makes me think of moving. How’s Myles doing??? Has he hit the begining of the lovely 2’s yet? Aidan seems to be getting there very quickly!!
July 26, 2007 at 9:45 pm #39929AnonymousInactiveaww i am sorry too..i hope its not reflux.. but if it is, i am sure your already and armed with what to do! 😉 hope he feels better soon.
and i hope living in Atlanta doesnt get too bad for your kids! its so nice down there!! 😉July 26, 2007 at 11:43 pm #39937AnonymousInactiveHi Jill,
So sorry to hear Aidan’s having a hard time. Now if Aidan is anything like Bryce I bet anything that a lot of his issues right now are from those eye-teeth! For the past two weeks Bryce hasn’t thrown up at all..… BUT he’s been cutting his bottom eye-teeth as well as two top teeth and yesterday and today he’s been throwing up again and has had a horrible diaper rash. Soo… I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the teeth bringing back Aidan’s reflux.I agree it’s probably a good idea to try the Prevacid. Hopefully you can get another prescription from the ENT! It’d be nice to have on hand at least. Well, good luck and I hope you can figure everything out and get that boy feeling better!

In regards to the diaper rash, we just had one recently when Cooper was cutting his first two teeth and his bottom looked like a big ole tomato. I spent about 5 days letting him air out as much as possible and I even used the hairdryer on cool when I needed to keep him in a diaper, we would blow him dry for a few minutes between diaper changes to get as much air as possible. Ours cleared up once the teeth came through. So i am hoping that maybe this is just teeth and not a reflux flare.July 27, 2007 at 3:53 pm #39973AnonymousInactiveMy older son used to get diaper rash sometimes pretty bad and there is a prescription cream that you can use for a few days to clear it up if the skin is broken. Ask your pedi about it. If the skin is just red, creams usually work (I’ve heard great things about Bert’s Bees diaper cream which you can get at Target) but if the skin is broken, you might need something stronger.

I’d be miserable in Georgia with my allergies, and Eliana would be too. She does fine in the house with the air purifiers but being outdoors turns her into a sneezing, sniffling mess. I really feel for her because I know how miserable it is. I forgot, have you tried allergy meds for Aidan? Mabye a good air purifier in his room at night would help some too. It helps Ellie a lot.Myles is actually doing better. His tantrums are fewer and further between and he’s easier to calm down now. Thanks for asking. He was SO BAD (temper wise) from 7 months until recently, so I sure deserve a break now. I’m hoping his “terrible two’s” came early and it’s going to be smooth sailing from now on.I sure hope Aidan is feeling better soon. Please keep us posted.ndrose2007-07-27 16:48:15
July 27, 2007 at 10:08 pm #39999AnonymousInactiveIt’s so great to hear from you guys again! Lauren, you never ended up moving here? (Shane’s a DOLL btw!) When we went tot he ENT, they cultured his nose, told me to call back on Tuesday for the results and tossed an augmenton rx at me. I think I will startthe prevacid again.
Aidan has taken nasonex, and now flonase b/c his insurance decided they won’t cover nasonex all of the sudden, but no other allergy meds. I wish they could give him singular, it works wonders with Austin!Christine, aww It’s so nice when they settle down, Austin was like miles, he was settled down at around 2. Aidan however, is such a fiesty thing. He’s tiny, but tough as nails (and a biter, which embarasses me to no end!!!!!!). Everything was fine until he realized he could DO something about the fact that someone had something he wanted!!!Heather, I’m sorry Bryce is refluxing again!!! Teething is the worst!!!And I think I’m going to ask my ped about that cream, I feel so bad for him, and yesterday in the store, he said (very loudly) ” I peepee, HOT!!!” I realized that the cream I have been using is obviously not working, and even 19 month olds can say very embarassing things!!July 28, 2007 at 9:11 am #40009AnonymousInactivejill~ no we didnt 🙁 .. dh couldnt get a finance job that paid the amount we need! (HIGH school loans) but hopefully one day we will, we have it in the back of our heads still 😉

good to see you again. Sorry to hear Aidan might be refluxing again. Brianna gets terrible diaper rashes when she is teething. We use this great cream called pinxav (http://www.pinxav.com)…it workes wonders for us. It is expensive, but worth the money. it is the ONLY thing that will clear Brianna’s rash up. Good luck!August 5, 2007 at 3:09 pm #40521AnonymousInactiveThanks guys, things seemed to have calmed down a bit since they switched his antibiotics, I never did end up giving him the prevacid, I realized we didn’t have enough for even 2 weeks so I just kept it at bay with tums. His little butt is even looking better!
August 5, 2007 at 7:57 pm #40545AnonymousInactiveI’m glad to hear he’s feeling better.
